@skywake
I think you've misread something in my comment, but I'm too lazy to really care lol
Switch has easily been the snappiest UI I've used. Even my Xbox One couldn't seem to manage ducking in and out of games like this.
Nintendo's games are the most fun for me. There are some other devs that still make fun games, but most seem to be more concerned with making semi-interactive movies rather than fun gameplay experiences.
@rallydefault
Yeah, nah. I got you I just didn't really agree with what you were implying and went on a bit of a tangent. It's not a case of chasing more power with "interactive movie" games with clunky UIs vs the alternative of being underpowered but with a snappy UI and great content. It's not one or the other. If anything having more modern hardware is going to allow the UI to be even snappier and make it easier to create great content
Which is why I got on that tangent. Hard to find a comparison for what this transition will be like because on the Nintendo side we haven't really had something like this. The power gap is going to be kinda like DS -> 3DS, a tad bigger but around that scale. But for consumers it won't quite be like that. I think for consumers it's going to be a bit more like GB -> GBC. Once we have the Switch 2 in our hands I think we'll just quickly forget about the OG Switch hardware. Direct replacement, better in every regard. It won't be like when we went from DS and thought "oh, it's nice we have BC but these DS games looked better on DS"
And the software is like.... kinda a non-issue here. I mean software is king, it's hugely important, but new hardware isn't going to change the software. All it's going to do is mean that it's easier for developers to hit a target level of performance. And easier development can only really be a positive. Nintendo's software isn't better because the Switch is underpowered. Nintendo's software is great in spite of the hardware
Throw all this in the most accessible form of any gaming platform ever? I'm all for it. Switch.... with HDR, post-HD resolutions, snappier hardware and more stable performance in game. Can't wait
On the subject of the Switch pro controller, it is really unacceptable how ***** their D pad is. And the applications of the D pad is not as limited as one may think. Plenty of 2D platformers, puzzle games like Tetris, and fighting games are played way better with the D pad, but Nintendo basically denies you of that privilege.
I was playing Tricky Towers with some friends during the weekend, and I was wondering why the blocks did some weird moves from time to time. Then, I tried playing Tetris 99, and after my blocks were insta-dropped a few times on random spaces, without me pressing the up button, I've had enough. I did some research and then I remembered just how ***** the pro controller's D pad is, it straight up gives false inputs.
It is unbelievable how ***** Nintendo's hardware has been during this gen, it is straight up faulty, both in joy con's and pro controller's case.
Let's hope they step up their game with Switch 2, competition has become more fierce for handhelds and now that Nintendo is more experienced with the potential problems of joy cons, and solutions such as magnetic joy sticks exist, there is no excuse for such bad design choices anymore.
@alexwolf Regarding the crap dpad on pro controller, it's sloppy accuracy still bites me in the butt. In Rocket League, when something bad happens, I mean to hit dpad quick chat for "Nooo!", but instead, my quick chat says "Savage!", and it makes me look like toxic jerk.
@WoomyNNYes Rocket League players be so touchy about the quick chat. That's all people ever seem to talk about with Rocket League. That and rotating of course.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Just be grateful the inadequacies of Switch hardware are such that they can be rectified via 3rd party hardware. Imagine if it was a dedicated handheld- there wouldn't be any, "oh just by these Mobapad M6 HD joycon and you're golden". You'd be stuck with it permanently. So if there's one thing I appreciate about Switch, it's the modular design. I never could understand the ppl who'd rag on and on about how uncomfortable Switch is to hold and how much they like the ergonomics of Deck, yet never took any action to do something about it despite Nintendo specifically making the system modular so we can do something about it. Like dude, go buy these 3rd party joycon and all those complaints will fall by the wayside! I love that about Switch.
Btw, Peach getting her Sargon on with that Prince of Persia-esque flip off the pole followed by an air dash and sword slash. I had to do a double take like woah, I was just doing that in Lost Crown not 20 min ago

No idea how accurate this is, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Saw this on twitter:

2. Fire Emblem 4 remake.

4. Grezzo's Oracle remakes.

@WaveBoy
It's still processing so it likely won't play in HD yet, but here's a YT Short demonstrating visual/audio input latency with the Test Input Devices feature. To me, it feels blazing responsive. Those mechanical Omron switches activate lightning fast.

My brother told me the newer pro controllers don’t misread inputs like the older ones. Im still using a launch day pro controller myself. Never noticed any input lag though.
@Commandervide0
They largely don't. But they're still horrible because they're designed to only allow 1 input at a time, so a 4-way design. This makes pulling off moves in fighters insanely hard when you need to press forward > forward + down > down > forward + down > forward + Punch
The 8-way design allows diagonals to register properly. A good 8-way design also ensures no false inputs. Combine an 8-way with a rocker d-pad using mechanical switches? Muah! I never knew a d-pad could feel so good to use. I don't think it's supposed to be this easy to pull off Zangief pile drivers, but I'm loving it.
Try doing a Zangief pile driver with the Pro Controller and you'll immediately recognize its deficiency.

1 input at a time? What is Nintendo thinking!? No proper dpad on joycon and a dodgey dpad on the pro controller. Gotta get me a third party controller before silksong comes out in about 5 years time😂
@WoomyNNYes Rocket League players be so touchy about the quick chat. That's all people ever seem to talk about with Rocket League. That and rotating of course.
Most of the time quick chat is fine. I use it 100% of the time. If someone's a toxic douche, I report & block them. But that's not frequent.
@Commandervide0
Best options imo as someone who's bought nearly a dozen different 3rd party controllers:
JOYCON D-PAD SOLUTION 1 Mobapad M6 HD joycon 2 Basstop dpad mod for official joycon
PRO CONTROLLER D-PAD SOLUTION 1 Mobapad Chitu HD pro controller 2 Mobapad M9 HD pro controller
The pro controller d-pad is largely fine unless you play fighting games. I never really had an issue with it except in Street Fighter. But if you get controller with better d-pad, you'll appreciate it. Both Mobapad M9 HD and Chitu HD pro controllers have HD rumble, NFC and all official controller functionality plus rear remappable buttons. Additionally, the Chitu HD has Hall Effect Analogs and a swappable d-pad for a rocker.
Get one of those and never look back. Though at this point, with Switch 2 right around the corner, not sure how much mileage you'll get.

Thanks, I’ll look into that. I play my switch a ton, so it could be worth it, but will see if Nintendo announce anything about a switch 2 over the next few months.
Have you got the 8bitdo ultimate controller? What do you think of it?

It makes a lot of sense but it looks too good for me to believe it
There was a joke article on the FP the other day about how they found a leak of the next direct and it contained HD Zelda remasters... of the DS games... and Metroid Prime.... Pinball. Maybe it says something about me but I legitimately liked the sound of that
Honestly, more 2D Zelda is what I want in this last year. New DK would be killer, assuming it's something somewhat meaty. Hell, do DKC Trilogy remastered with real time rendering this time. I'd be down for that. Remasters of FE and MP? Sure, why not

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
@alexwolf You can change drop in Tetris 99 to a trigger button. The in-game control options didn't exist at the release but they added them pretty quickly when everyone complained about the Pro Controller issues. Makes the game 100 times better.
My personal biggest insanity with the pro controller is Mario Maker levels with artistic vines which the controller loves to randomly grab.
And I mentioned this in a different thread, but I feel like it is nigh-impossible to input the Konami Code correctly on the Pro-Controller. I failed like 30 times in a row and got it first try on joycons
@skywake thats how I viewed it. Too good to be true. A new dk country, oracle games being remade in HD, prime 2, and FE remake are literally the top things I want right now aside from maybe MK9 or a 3d mario. So if these happens, that's one hell of a switch send off imo. I'd be set this next year.
If Prime 2 comes but not Prime 3, it would suggest Prime 4 isn't coming until late 2025 at the absolute earliest (Nintendo chose to release Prime 1 last February so would be around a year between entries). That feels unlikely unless Switch 2 isn't happening this year.
FE remake would clash with Unicorn Overlord, FE killed Advance Wars twice so a FE remake being announced before Unicorn Overlord releases would potentially burn bridges with Atlus.
Nintendo avoids adding games to NSO for awhile if remakes are happening, Link's Awakening did come to NSO but it was 3.5 years after the remake launched. If Oracle remakes happen, I feel it'll be in like 2026/2027.
