So I got my copy of Alien: Isolation from Limited Run Games. Half the time of Doom Eternal, which I wasn't necessarily expecting.
I have to admit, I didn't plan on playing either game ASAP so I don't especially care if they take a while. I'm just glad that two games that OBVIOUSLY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN RETAIL RELEASES IN THE FIRST PLACE actually got a physical release on Switch.
I would just like to ask if anyone has any recommendations for a headset that can be used with the switch lite. I have obviously looked but it gets complicated because lots say they are suitable for switch, but I know that they use the usb in the dock so won't work for the lite. It would actually be nice if it was possible that they would work for both.
going to be playing a little bit of Super Mario RPG Remake tonight. then tomorrow Mortal Kombat 12/1 is coming by Fed Ex just like with Super Mario RPG earlier today
y'know the hidden gems section in the Switch eShop? It usually has a lot of indies and Nintendo sneaks in the occasional less popular Nintendo game. So today it was Cat Cafe Manager, Venba, Suika Game... fair enough. Kirby Dream Buffet? I'll allow it. Then... Animal Crossing New Horizons! 😐 What the heck Nintendo?! That is as far away from a hidden gem as you can get on Switch.
I enjoyed New Leaf on my 3DS, but I'm not one to stick with an Animal Crossing for a hundred hours. I'll give it a shot for a bit, but probably duck out after a dozen hours.
I was thinking of getting one of those special Switch Lites that come with the game, so two birds one stone situation perhaps.
@rallydefault I may or may not have played for like 500 hours. 😝 I think it takes 20 or 30 hours to unlock all the main things and get the credit sequence after the concert if you want to have a goal and still not play long. The animal crossing Switch Lites are super cute. I only have a normal one, but I love my Switch Lite for travel.
Oops, I thought Super Mario RPG would've lasted me until December 1st but I finished it today. RPGs are usually very long but this one was rather short (took me around 20 hours to beat) which was a nice change of pace to be honest. I'd rank in 2nd for favourite Mario RPGs (below Color Splash and above Origami King).
@Grumblevolcano my copy is still delayed through Amazon so I haven't touched it yet. Should last me til the end of the year I'd imagine since I'm playing other stuff too.
Thankfully with the delay, Amazon gave me a $10 promo for being delayed. Then it missed the 2nd day it was supposed to arrive now I got the game coming free of charge with $74 of credit. So I bought metal gear solid collection and trinity trigger to keep me busy til then. And P5T on xbox gamepass. So im set anyway til years end.
Was enjoying Super Mario RPG... but then they had to have a mandatory gauntlet section. A product of its time I guess but an artificial game lengthening tool and something I'm glad we've moved beyond

@skywake I haven't had time to play much yet but if there is a part you find long and annoying, does temporarily switching to 'breezy mode' help? I know some people are against easy modes, but using it only to skip or shorten a part you dislike seems like a good use.
As for Gauntlets... Wonder does have a Gauntlet too 😝
@FishyS
Yeah, maybe. Not sure how much it'd help with this section but, maybe it does, worth a go I guess. The problem isn't really that it's "hard" it's just really drawn out. And it's not an optional thing either. You're basically forced to go through a series of challenges, each multiple rooms deep. If you fail any of the rooms you have to repeat that entire batch from the start. Just, bad design....
If easy mode reduces the room depth to 1? Then cool. that's probably how it should've been designed in the first place. Hopefully that's the case
@skywake, If you're talking about the section I think you are I also just got through it tonight. Worst part of the game by far so far.
Luckily you only have to do 4 of the 6 paths to clear it, and the 2 battle gauntlet paths (while the most long winded) were the easiest, so that's half of it done right there. The platforming ones were infuriating though (platforming in general in this game is pretty clunky, so I don't know why they thought precision segments were a good idea). Luckily I managed to push through one of them though.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@RR529@FishyS
Yep, it was that section. Difficulty level didn't change anything other than, I assume, the battle paths which were easy anyways. So I immediately swapped it back. I tackled it again and got through the enough sections to pass in one go. I guess I was a bit more tired when I tackled it the other day or something
But yeah, a bit of a crap design to have long sections like that where you're forced to retry the entire bit if you fail. I'm fairly sure the reason they made it a pick-a-door was because they knew it was a bit.... tedious... the game would've definitely been better off without it

Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak collector edition preorders are live and only has 25% stock remaining. MSRP $99.99 with free shipping.
This is the first game in the Calvard arc, and the first game Falcom has developed in house for the Switch, and as target platform at that. The PS version was created from the Switch version, in order to ensure the game could run properly on Switch, as opposed to targeting PS and trying to downscale to Switch after the fact (which as we know, almost never works out that well- there are times quality Switch versions are released in this manner, but there's no question they'd be far better if Switch were developed first and foremost, with the PS version simply adapting that version and souping it up... easier to upscale to more powerful hardware than downscale to less powerful hardware).
Ok thanks to the power of internet deals, I finally got No More Heroes 3 and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, probably the 2021 games I most needed to get already. Also Sonic Superstars because...why not? The Nintendo games I wanted weren't gonna be on sale so soon anyway.
Definitely skip the Monkey Ball Banana 'Blitz' HD Switch remaster. That game was specifically designed around Wii remote tilt controls, which worked really well, but are completely absent from the remaster. So you're basically left with less intricate simplified stages that were originally designed to accommodate the Wii remote motion tilt controls.
Oh I had ZERO interest in Banana Blitz HD. The original is just ok, but not much else and they changed some of the music for the worse, when the music is the single best part of Banana Blitz.
Even with the flaws and the "questionable but at least the base game was never full price" locking the original music behind DLC, Banana Mania interested me so much more, remaking far better games and including Deluxe levels which I never played because Deluxe wasn't on GCN. If it had online, I would've bought it much sooner.
