I wonder if there's any shovelware I can spend my paltry 124 gold points on? (..nah, I'll either use it as a tidy discount or treat myself to another DLC car on Rocket League or something - should be decent going forward )
What does the "eligible for up to gold coin + 100" mean? I see it with different numbers, like +40, +20 and so on under the price of the game. At first I thought it meant you could only use that number of coins for a discount but when I go to checkout that is not the case, I can use all my coins. Just wondering.
So, I now have $25 in gold coins (roughly 2,500 gold coins). I would've had over $100 under the new system but that's OK, because $25 is more than I've gotten from their reward system in years. Even back before the switch all they ever seem to offer was Wii U and 3DS VC titles that everyone already bought the world over. And they knew that 90% of their gamership had already bought those games... it's why they were selectively chosen for a rewards. The other ones that were selectively chosen were games they knew nobody wanted.
This is the first time since... gosh... 2014, that I've actually seen a decent reward given back to me. By this time next year I should have $150-$200 in gold coins, thanks to the new 5%/1% back

I read this little nugget of information on GoNintendo.
It's worth noting a little caveat here. Almost all launch Switch games are ineligible if they weren't already redeemed before the update. If you were holding out to redeem, it seems you're out of luck.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yeah someone, I don't remember who, noticed Nintendo was going to change their policy on redeeming points for physical cartridges. Apparently, now you only have one year to redeem points for your carts.

You get a full year (TWO years in Europe) to spend your coins.
And you don't need to build up enough to be worth anything. You can apply your balance of any amount at any time towards any purchase. So if you only have $3 in gold coins, then you can apply that $3 off to a digital purchase.
It's basically just the Wii U Deluxe Digital Promotion with half the amount earned back, but as a permanent program rather than just the first 12 months after launch. And you don't need $5 increments to spend. And physical actually earns too (albeit 20% the rate of digital but, DDP offered nothing for physical in comparison)

So I guess NA and Europe have 2 separate rewards programs judging from comments here and the other thread combined with what I'm seeing myself.
NA
1 gold point = 1 cent
Gold points cannot be used for any DLC, Microtransactions, memberships, etc.
The number of points you can use for certain games is limited (e.g. can only use a maximum of 75 points for Stardew Valley)
Physical games can be registered up to a year after launch
Europe
1 gold point = 1p (UK) or 0.01 euros (rest of Europe)
Gold points can be used for anything on the eshop
There is no limit for how many gold points you can use (of course if you have enough points to buy something for free with points, it uses the minimum number of points to get it free)
Physical games can be registered up to 2 years after launch
Feel free to correct me if any NA points are wrong or missing.
@Grumblevolcano Yes it posts that the maximum is only 75 points but when you use them I'm pretty sure it allows you to select them all. I just haven't bought anything past that screen to be 100% sure.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
The maximum is for the maximum points you can earn for the purchase. You only earn coins for what you end up paying after the discount. There is no maximum gold coins you can use.
So I can understand why the EU program has "Spend points on any purchases" as opposed to NA "Certain purchases".
It's quite simple really, what does NA have more of that we don't? Physical releases. We are getting loads of games here digital only (Capcom) and some because Nintendo foots the bill like Dark Souls, a Nintendo published title at retail here, whereas NA gets them physically.
So if we are locked into digital only choices, Nintendo can effectively sweeten the sour grapes for us in making it less of a slap in the face.

They really should have increased our gold coin balance to what it would be worth under the new system. Altogether I've got around 1600 gold coins, that took a lot of money to build up yet it's worth 5 times less than what it would be under the new system. Kind-of like them saying to us "well that's your fault for being an early adopter then isn't it." Not at all surprised, it's Nintendo but still, greedy buggers they are.
