Topic: Using external speaker system with my switch on my PC monitor

Basically the title:

I can take the switch and plug it into my monitor with HDMI and use it, however it uses the monitor speakers. I want to use external speakers that go into my PC via fiber optic.

Is there a way to use my PC as a sort of receiver where the switch goes into the PC and out of the PC into the monitor, while also using the sound from the fiber optic cable?

We have this setup in our main living room with the switch going into HDMI on a receiver and out into the TV with HDMI, but I just want to know if I can get it to work in my room.

Thanks for any help and sorry if this isn't clear. Also, not sure where to post this question so hopefully I'm in the right spot!

Does your PC garphocs card have an HDMI-in?

@Agriculture No, it only has 1 HDMI-out and a display-port out with 2 DVI outs.

Have you tried plugging a cable from the headphone port of the switch to your pc mic in then just playing that source through your PC might work for getting sound out through the pc??

@ValhallaOutcast mine does, this is something I have not thought about... so this would work if a person had some spare stereo speakers that connect with 3.5mm jack... but is there a way to use this for 6.1 speakers already connected to the PC?

@ValhallaOutcast well I mean, I have a soundblaster X-fi and an Asus motherboard and logitech z-5500 speakers... so the speakers have 3 plugs into the soundcard, the only other input in the soundcard is for mic. Of course nothing plugged into the motherboard cuz im not using onboard sound.

well the little cotrol centre that comes with the Logitech z-5500 doesnt that have multiple inputs?

@ValhallaOutcast hey man.. this thread got me fiddling around and i figured it out shortly after I post that.. yes the control pod has the correct input. I had tried it a couple weeks ago, but I was trying from the headphone jack on the switch into the control pod which didnt work, not realizing my monitor had an audio out.

I was so excited once I got it working because the whole time I was thinking... man, I know there has to be an easy solution to this, just didnt know what.

The only thing is it really needs an equalizer but at least it works.... My only question is, in the switch TV options, is surround sound going to work or should I select stereo?

@Inertiacreep If your sound is coming from the Switch via the HDMI you should be able to go into the Switch's audio menu and choose surround sound - then test it with your system to see if the audio out on the monitor supports that. Do that, and you will know the answer to your question.

@Inertiacreep Um I don't think you can test them 1 at a time. What it does is play 6 sounds, presumably one from each speaker. When you test it on stereo it does one from each speaker and it has the option for surround sound so I am assuming it works like that on there too. But I don't currently have a system to test it with myself.
