Topic: TV resolution settings

Hello all,

I've been enjoying my time with the Switch, so much that I bought a second one. Started with just the Switch lite, and now have the Switch V2.
There's one thing that I don't really fully understand : the TV settings. I know it changes the Switch's image resolution output to whatever we pick... But my point is : is there any advantage in quality image if choosing for instance 720p image resolution to native 720p games running on the Switch? I'm talking about games like Immortals Fenyx Rising, The Outer Worlds, The Witcher 3, on those titles where the Switch "stuggles".
By the way I have 55" LG LED 4K TV, and that where my dock is connected to.
Thanks for all your thoughts.

@Washaz I don't think there is advantage of choosing 720p.

I am on a 4K 42" TV and my Switch is set to 1080p. It is just that the Switch is NOT as capable as the other consoles. And the games you mentioned (I have them all) are natively EXTREMELY blurry already especially on a huge TV.

@Washaz I haven't been able to notice a performance or picture advantage for setting the Switch resolution 720p while connected to a 65" 4K TV.

@Washaz theoretically it would be better to set your Switch to 720p manually for games not supporting 1080p.

You would want to avoid the situation where you upscale in two steps: the Switch upscales from 720p to 1080p and the TV from 1080p to 2160p (4k). Theoretically it seems better to let the TV do the upscaling in one step from 720p to 2160p, especially if you have an LG in de B/C/E 8/9/X series since they're good at that.

In practice though, I don't notice any difference so I just leave the Switch's resolution to auto

@toiletduck awesome comment, that was very enlightening do read, I tested setting the Switch to 720p on Immortals Fenyx Rising, and there's little to no difference on the image.
Thanks for the tip 👍

@Zuljaras It's a shame because there's so much potential on the Switch's hardware 😔

@Washaz cool, enjoy.

You may want to check out this forum thread btw: me and some other guys have had some discussion about buying and eventually setting up the LG combined with Switch.
