Classic survival horror series Silent Hill may be on a prolonged hiatus, but that doesn't stop others from trying to fill that void. Slated for a late October release, Tormented Souls appears to be the right game at the right time. A dark, gritty 3D adventure game.

Between this and Fatal Frame V, this is going to be a good Halloween.

Looks as though Murican retailers have pushed the release date to February 25th, 2022.

More polish can only be a good thing I suppose.

We're roughly two weeks away from release. (April 14th) I'm eager to see how the Switch port turned out, so I'll probably be dropping whatever I'm currently playing in favor of this once it's in my hands.

Much to my disappointment, early previews for the game have mentioned frequent hardcrashing to dashboard. I assume it's something that'll be post-patched out. But that just means that physical copies releasing at the end of the week probably aren't worth owning. It breaks my heart, I was really looking forward to adding this one to the collection.

Preorder cancelled.

That is a shame, i really liked the PC version though, although it is an acquired taste for sure, since all the clunkiness is actually intentional

@Magician I could not be worse than Bloodstained Ritual of the Night. The crashes there were brutal and yet I managed to finish it on 100% just from the base cartridge.

Magician

@Zuljaras The worst offender in regards to physical releases would hands down be Dungeon of the Endless. The launch version on cartridge for that game won't allow you to progress beyond half an hour into the game before crashing to dashboard. The crashing was fixed with post-patching, but at the same time the audio was damaged, lol.

Just one of those physical releases not worth owning. At least Bloodstained is worth a playthrough.

The wait paid off.

Physical copies reached 50% off msrp recently, so I grabbed a copy at last. Now after playing an hour I'm happy to say I'm glad I made the purchase. Not a single crash. Although the frame rate in the prologue cutscene chugs, the gameplay otherwise performs fine.

Kudos to the developers, this game oozes atmosphere. Somewhere between Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The homages to both are plain as day. And the prerendered backgrounds, while a tad muddy as most Switch third party games are, do look nice.

It raises my hackles. If you enjoy classic survival horror, I might qualify this as a don't-skip.

But we'll see. Who knows if I'll experience any crashes later in the game.

@Magician i was kinda low key been wanting to buy a physical copy for the switch, until the performance issues were brought up. For that reason i played through it on PC and i really liked it. Hope they fixed the crashes too, because saving in these kind of games is very essential and repeating puzzles and backtracking again and again isn't preferable to say the least..
