I had always planned to wait a year to get Switch 2, because my backlog, among other games I've not yet bought (or have yet to come out in the case of a few of them), were inevitably going to take priority. The high price and the uncertainty of where Switch 2 will be in a year at its price, among other things, made this a much easier decision, and I might wait until like late 2026 depending on how things go.
Granted, I'll use Switch sometimes, the same way I still have a few 3DS games left to play now, but I don't need Switch 2 to make my backlog even worse now. At the very least, I want to have played Sonic Superstars, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania (that's the compilation game, in case you were understandably unsure by all the similarly named Monkey Ball games on Switch), Xenoblade 3, Captain Toad (at last), Super Mario Wonder, Kirby Star Allies, No More Heroes 3, Metroid Prime 4, Doom Eternal, Alien:Isolation, the 2D Yooka Laylee, A Hat In Time, Mina the Hollower, replay Metroid Dread and a couple of the N64 games, before I finally switch.
I do appreciate that Kirby and the Forgotten Land (I keep thinking its called Forbidden Ruins or something) has new content, so that means I can save that purchase for the new console.
I would certainly like to get a Switch 2, but I've been holding off on getting one for a few reasons...
There's not much new games to play on it. Right now, Mario Kart World is the only new game that I'm truly excited to play, and there's only three GameCube games on NSO right now... the only GC game I'd want to play is F-Zero GX. I've already finished Wind Waker on Wii U years ago, and I'm not super interested in Soul Calibur 2 because I don't like fighting games very much. Also, the only Switch 2 Edition I'm interested in is the one for Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Personally, I'd rather have an extra game or two that I'd really look forward to, like the next 3D Mario and the next Animal Crossing, alongside MKW.
The game prices can get pretty ridiculous, particularly for Mario Kart World. As fabulous as that game looks, $80 is quite a lot... even as somebody who was expecting games to go up to $70. It stung pretty hard when I first heard about it, especially coming from the Switch generation where most of Nintendo's games were $60. It might be at least partially due to inflation... I may feel better about it as time goes on, though I would certainly prefer not having that price spike.
I opted for a "wait and see" approach for the Switch 2, and yeah, looks like there are some issues like the battery life and a few Switch games having a bug or two on Switch 2. I remember when I had my V1 Switch, the battery life indicator was acting strangely. My first pair of joy-cons started drifting, too.
I do know of the game key cards, and yes, I don't like them either. I do tend to get more excited for Nintendo's own games than the third-party offerings though, so they shouldn't be too big of an issue to me personally. I could just not buy them.
So yeah. It's a console I'd love to have, it's pretty dang powerful for a Nintendo console and I'd love to see what more of my favorite series would be like on the Switch 2. Some of my friends have one now and I do have a slight bit of jealousy, lol... but at the same time, I'd like more to play out of the box and I'd like to see some of the bugs ironed out. The next Animal Crossing would definitely make me want a Switch 2. It was lovely playing New Horizons at launch and having made new friends thanks to that game... and I had just as much fun coming back to it when the big update and DLC came out.

Favorite game: Super Mario 3D World
AKA MarioVillager92. Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I want to get to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
On the positive side, I'm eager to own a Switch 2 to play around with backwards compatibility and last gen ports. But after reading week-one first impressions, it seems that waiting for the first revision / iteration a couple years down the road might be worth the wait.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
Despite my previous statements, I have to bow out of this forum due to my dad unexpectedly getting a Switch 2 for the family. It was nice not having a Switch 2 with you people!
I have a Switch, PS5, and some older platforms too. I couldn't justify Switch 2 on launch day, not for Mario Kart.
I'd like to get one later this year, but we'll see.
I just can't buy it in its current state. When more normal physical releases come, I will definitely get it.
If Bandai Namco decides to put Elden Ring on the cartridge for the western release, I will get the damn console for that game alone But until then I need more good physical releases!
@gcunit@N00BiSH Sorry for also stealing the template you laid down.
How it feels not owning one:
Indifferent, really. It's not like I feel excluded or anything. As I've said in other comments, my gaming attention right now is on the Gamecube.
Why I want one/Why I'm jealous of SW2 owners:
-Seems to improve on a lot of personal nitpicks I have with Switch 1.
-Donkey Kong Bananza immediately got my attention, unlike Super Mario Odyssey on Switch 1.
-Cow (enough said).
Why I'm not too hung up on getting one immediately:
-Price
-Not an early adopter anymore
-Personal decision of commiting to my ignored retro collections (DS, 3DS and Gamecube) after getting JUMP ULTIMATE STARS and Metroid: Samus Returns during the first weeks of 2025, which has resulted in those games plus JUMP SUPER STARS, Mario & Sonic Rio 2016 3DS, Luigi's Mansion GC, Star Fox: Assault, Baten Kaitos I, Tales of Symphonia and (an expected delivery of) Fight Night Round 2 GC.
And this last one is a very personal/pedantic nitpick, but I might as well voice it:
New games are coming out, but I've convinced myself that the Switch 2 might be my last system ever. Nothing to do with Nintendo itself, but everything in real life has been getting more expensive than expected, at least in my area.
Not to mention that I'm starting to feel a little like I did in late 2021-early 2022 in that new games weren't hyping me as much as they did, back then I even considered the idea of gving up on gaming, that was until I played Metroid Dread and Kirby and the Forgotten Land, both on early 2022, that my gaming fire was ignited again.
Right now, nothing on the Switch 2 apart from Donkey Kong Bananza is really hyping me, normally I'd also say Metroid Prime 4 along with DK, but I consider it a Switch 1 game first and foremost (it was the game that made me get a Switch 1 in the first place). Kirby Air Riders is also a game I want, but I'm not feeling really hyped given we know next to nothing about it. I learned my lesson with Metroid Prime 4.
I'm hoping DK fires me up the same way Metroid and Kirby did on the Switch 1.
It will take a while, but eventually a Switch 2 will be bought. Getting Switch 2 games, however, is fair game.
No Switch 2 yet, and don't know if I'm going to get one, I rather wait for a price drop or a cheaper model like if they made a Switch 2 Lite that's cheaper, or even used. I really do not like the idea of $80 games, and game-key cards.
On my Nintendo systems I play third party games too, and seeing almost all the third party games being a game-key card is kind of a deal breaker. I buy digital and physical, and love physical for games in series I like (like Sonic for example). Also, physical saves on system/SD card memory, I can see game-key cards being a problem filling up memory fast.
Also, I'm a PC gamer, I'm use to cheaper prices for games in general. Within my time playing PC games, not once have I paid $60-$80 for a game. I've gotten classics for less than a few bucks, newer games for $25-$30, just by waiting for GOG or Steam to have sales. Even on Switch, I take advantage of eShop sales.
Plus there's not many games out for it right now. Outside Mario Kart World, most of the games can be played elsewhere, like on Switch or PC. I have Sonic x Shadow Generations and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 on Switch, I don't need to buy them again, let alone get a cartridge with no game on it. If I must have that 60+ framerate boost, I'll just wait for a good discount on PC.

@Sunsy Assuming you know, but just making sure. The youtube app also doesn't work on switch 2. You literally cannot open the app on switch 2 - I tried. Not sure if or when that will get fixed or updated.
@WoomyNNYes Yup, I do know. I think it was a news story here. I do use YouTube on Switch a lot when I'm not gaming on Switch for gaming news and content, watching a guy who collects and talks about cartoon collectables, and my Movies Anywhere library. I have a Roku, but I'm already logged in on YouTube Switch hence why I use it so much.
Thanks for reminding me about backwards compatibility. I haven't checked the list in some time, but I do remember having a couple of games that didn't work with Switch 2. I recently played Warface on Switch, and looking it up on Nintendo's website said it was unsupported, citing problems with progression.
I was about to post this, and decided to check the list. Unsupported, I have YouTube, Warface, Ninjala (while F2P, I bought the single player stuff when it was on sale), and Crash N. Sane Trilogy. On the issues to be resolved list, Super Neptunia RPG, however Asphalt Legends Unite did get fixed via update.

Tbh, if I really wanted to, I could probably skip the entire Switch 2 generation and still play great games for the first time I actively want to try out on Switch 1. There's that many games I'm interested in. I could make a top 20 list of specifically "games I'll likely not get anytime soon because I'll be busy with Switch 2 and backlog", and still have to make some really tough cuts.
@kkslider5552000, honestly, I kind of agree with you. There are plenty of other JRPG series I haven't even touched yet on Switch. I'm especially interested in Xenoblade Chronicles. If I just skipped the entire Switch 2 generation, I'd have plenty of games to keep me entertained in the meantime.

I'm pretty sure half of my entire time playing Switch were based on just Zelda and JRPGs, even though I've only played through 6 JRPGs on Switch, and never touched the Switch versions of BOTW and Hyrule Warriors.
If I'm wrong and its less than half, its only because of Splatoon. Point is, long games are long.
@kkslider5552000, six JRPGs is potentially half of your Switch playtime? Interesting. Which ones have you played? I've played the following:
Pokémon Shield
Pokémon Violet
Do both of the Mario+Rabbids games count?
Currently playing Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, probably over halfway through
Already purchased and will start sometime after I'm done with Dragon Quest 3 and totk:
Dragon Quest XI S Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition

It's like the meme of "I need to balance my budget help me out" and one of the items is insanely more expensive, but its for time spent and Xenoblade. Honestly thinking about it, I could have just said "Zelda and Xenoblade are a 1/3 of my time spent on Switch" and it'd be accurate.
I'm not supposed to be in this thread anymore but the 'what games took half your playtime' topic interested me. I have a spreadsheet and about 21 games together took half my Switch playtime:
'Cozy' games - Animal Crossing, Hello Kitty Island Adventure
2D Mario - Mario Maker 2, Mario Wonder
NSO apps - snes, nes, gb
Pokemon - Violet, Brilliant Diamond, Arceus
Other RPGs - New Denpa Men, Dragon Quest Treasures
Fitness Circuit ( an exercise game)
Picross - Logiart, Piczle Cross Story of Seasons
Rogue Legacy - both 1 and 2.
Tetris 99
Suika Game
Awesome Pea 2 (a platformer I used to speed run)
Zelda Echoes of Wisdom
The other half of my playtime included about 20 more rpgs and about 300 mostly shorter games.
@kkslider5552000, would you recommend the Xenoblade Chronicles series to someone like me who usually prefers turn-based combat? Granted, I'm gonna try out Pokémon Legends Z-A when that comes out this year and see if I like action RPGs, but I'm curious about what your answer will be. I probably won't get to Xenoblade Chronicles for a while since I haven't even started Dragon Quest XI yet, but if I end up skipping the Switch 2, that could potentially be a franchise I start getting into in the meantime.
Edit: I'm also asking about the difficulty. If I played any of the Xenoblade Chronicles games, would I have to grind a lot? Just curious.

Xenoblade is kinda MMO-ish in combat. Or a more exciting FFXII. In that specific regard, it feels not entirely different than the older Final Fantasy ATB system, where you still do menu based, turn based choices to attack but it still happens in real time (big difference being you can also move the whole time in battle which is relevant to the combat in certain ways). I think it works quite well personally.
I would say Xenoblade 1 is an incredibly easy recommendation, its about as solid and I think widely beloved as a non-Square Enix, non-Pokemon, non-Persona 5 JRPG gets. It's also not grind-y at all, especially if you do a decent amount of sidequests.
Xenoblade 2 can be awesome but its a much harder recommendation, because it triples down on anime aesthetics and tropes to mixed results, has a bad tutorial system that makes it far more difficult to get into and fully enjoy its combat system, and the sidequests can become an unfairly ridiculous time sink even by the standards of large RPGs. If you can get past all that there is a fantastic game underneath it all tho. But 1 is still a much easier recommendation.
