Been rough for a while, but this week has been especially, eventful, one would say. Instead of dwelling and sulking, I need to kinda distract myself the best I can, until a little time eases things a bit.
Which games usually work best for you, in the way of distracting and forgetting for a couple hours or so? Figured I'd try them out, and see if they might work for me as well. I really appreciate it.

RPGs and all its various sub-genres (action, turn-based, strategy, etc). Usually any game with a progression system that "make number go up" has my attention. After that, shmups of any variety. Vertical, horizontal, first person, third person...doesn't matter. I aim, I click, things die and/or explode. It's just a good time, regardless of the art direction or theme of the game.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,459 games (as of June 16th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 2 games (as of June 9th, 2025)
@StarPoint I haven’t played in a bit, but dang, when I did I spent like three hours, and it just flew by, idk how the heck I will just back into it now.

Turn-based RPG's and Puzzle games are my happy place. Lately I've added Visual Novels to that list as well with Ace Attorney but that's definitely something I have to be in the mood for rather than something I can play literally whenever.
A genre that I can lose myself to depending on the game would definitely be 3D Platformers. Mario Galaxy? 100%ed twice and loved every minute. Mario 64? I usually get about 5 Stars every time I boot it up and then leave it for the next couple of months. There always has to be something bombastic with 3D Platformers for me to really enjoy it but when it does happen, they end up as some of my favourite games ever made.

I like to play Behold the Kickmen and 51 Games (President) every so often, and lately i have picked up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and New Super Lucky's Tale (both top quality games and i really like them).
Pretty much any Mario platformer! Loved the Super Mario series since I was younger, and they're just plain fun to play. They really keep me busy, too. Other examples for me include any game in the Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Animal Crossing series.
Breath of the Wild for me too. It's helped me through tough times over the past year (especially the exploration aspect), and I didn't expect to feel that way about a game. For a while I wished it was shorter so I could play more different games, but now I'll be sad when it ends.
Mario Odyssey can be a fun blast, especially New Donk City and Peach's Castle.
I enjoy photography and sometimes it's just fun to take screenshots and photos in both games.
Playing the game late at night in the summer with my fan on like I'm feeling the summer breeze all while chilling to the soundtrack and fishing... I caught a Seabass! No wait---It's at least a C+
@StarPoint @ Snatcher Ditto for the Story of Seasons games, except the most recent one, of course. My go-to games after a stressful day. Just wind down in a world where everything is at it should be.
Mario is never a bad choice. And there are so many to choose from.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons will whisk you away for hours, whether you are grinding away at goals, crafting, planting flowers, decorating your house or re-designing your island layout......or even diving for scallops. Plus you can time-travel to a different month and get festive if you are feeling that mood.
Octopath Traveler (turn-based RPG) is a solid pick.......it's engaging and it is utterly beautiful. It looks like a pop-up storybook. It's fantastic.
