Its no surprise that nintendo would bring out an underpowered console once again. I predict this will be their last one.
They try to sell the gimmick first and not specs. Which means they create consoles that will run THEIR games first and foremost. If a third party wants to join then its great if not they dont care. This time they will be doomed. Third party support is currently worse than when the wii u came out. I think they pulled a stunt with skyrim. It was an indicator that theres gonna be 3rd party support but in truth it showed that the switch was capable to be on par with ps3 and x360.
Their last one? So you're saying it's gonna sell worse than the Wii U? Not a chance.
The issue isn't 'power' but rather 'perception'. What kind of gaming experience is exciting to people, and what kind of device can deliver it. There should be no doubt about the fact that the Switch is capable of being used to make good games, and these games should be more than capable of being high visual quality.
If the question is whether the Switch is as powerful as the Xbox or PS4, the answer is obviously no. Absolutely I'm disappointed by that. I would much rather have paid $300US and just got a handheld with the need to purchase dock/charging grip later if that meant i would have had a higher-powered unit.
The problem is that how big is the market for a $300-$500US handheld? My four kids, wife and I all like our N3dses/xls, but I sure am not spending $2400US on 6 switches!
The Switch can easily become cheaper quick, and if it was sold without dock be down to $199 before too long. I might get another one or two because I like mine. And we don't need six for us all to play, three works... 3 switches vs 6 3ds suddenly isn't so off price wise. I hope they put a few tablet features in them soon, as they're cheaper than iPads, and honestly a lot more fun. iPads are not designed for multiplayer, and no one has controllers for them, etc. This thing is built for having fun... pick up the car headrest adapter, suddenly you could have a perfect vehicle entertainment system... no wifi needed for multiplayer is so amazing.
I don't think many people care about graphics as much as some people think... they just equate better graphics with more power, and therefore maybe they won't miss out on something. But graphics just eat up a lot of budget and still get dismissed as goofy/garbage( Mass Effect: Andromeda).. and no matter what, whatever graphics are 'awesome' will look like garbage compared to the next megaton.
Nintendo has basically given us everything we wanted... who wouldn't dream of having 3ds TV play? If we support the platform, it will only get better.

You have no idea what you're talking about. The WiiU was already on par with the XBOX360 and PS3.
All Three their GPU supported up to around 300-400 GFLOPS.
The Tegra X1 can push at full clockspeed up to 1 TFLOPS ( 1000 GFLOPS ).
Since Nintendo is playing it a bit safe in beginning the clock speeds have been Locked at this moment, but docked the Switch can still push up to 700 GFLOPS, that is double the performance of the WiiU, XBOX360 and PS3.
Undocked in handheld mode, with current downlocked clockspeeds, it's on par with WiiU, XBOX360 and PS3. That is incredibly impressive. It puts both the 3DS and PSVita to shame. It's the most powerful handheld console at this time.
And like I said in earlier post, it's a custom (second gen) Tegra X1, so we don't know what improvements and optimizations have been done within the SoC.
Also, Nintendo has already unlocked and increased the Memory speeds before March 3rd. It's very well possible that at a later date, when more software/firmware improvements have passed that they might unlock the clockspeed of the CPU/GPU to make full use of the max 1 TFLOPS the Tegra X1 SoC is capable of (docked ofcourse).
Second, Tegra X1 is still a powerful graphics chip, plus I believe it's been customized to match Nintendo's requirements. In addition to that, according to some reports, Switch is easier to develop games for than PS4, which is funny considering the former is weaker than the latter.
Finally, games matter more than power. Without good games, the console is just a paperweight.
Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

@Jeronan Keep in mind the tegra x1 does 1000 gflops of fp16 which isn't used in game graphics. when talking about x1 use the number 512 gflops. That is its maximum. If the switch could do 1000 gflops I don't think anyone would be talking about power seeings that this is a portable. If it could do 1000 gflops there would be absolutely no question that it couldnt get ports of current gen. The issue is that its closer to last gen. Thats why people complain about power.
Also the X1 isn't second gen. Maxwell is its 2nd generation kepler being the first generation and pascal being the 3rd. Kepler was the start of a new form factor for nvidia
The ps3 was 196 gflops, xbox 360 240 gflops and the wii u was either 365 gflops or 175 gflops. I don't think anyone knows because nintendo never told us.
@Azooooz People will complain to complain, they forget that ports on this chip will be much easier than they ever were with the Wii U thanks to the modern architecture of the X1.
wow a debate on a Nintendo consoles' power and its relation to 3rd party support, I've never seen that one before
Now excuse me, I need to complain about all the dudebros who play Xbox, how 3D Sonic sucks, and how the only thing that matters for localization is how much of a female character's body you can or cannot see. Just so we can complete our quota of garbage.

Maybe I was a little bit sarcastic with my skyrim statement.
Ok, so it will be able to run skyrim. Great. Will it be able to run fallout 4? I doubt it.
What about a game like witcher 3?
The point is, even though it might be better than wii u, its still far away from the top dogs. Right its a portable but it could have been better easily. Nintendo could the tegra x2 chip. That would have made some impression. Maybe they will introduce an upgraded switch in like two years like they did with the new 3ds.
in the end of the day, it well probably still do better than the Wii U.
For me personally it doesn't even need to be much more powerful to be more impressive than the Wii U. The vast majority of the time I played my Wii U on the GamePad. So for me the extra GFLOPs and GB don't mean as much as the jump from a compressed 480p display to an uncompressed 720p one that's not tethered to a box under your TV. The fact that it's also more capable than the Wii U is neither here nor there.
Unfortunately even if the switch is selling good right now it could all just be the nintendo fans that are buying it up. Right now its at 1.5 million consoles sold. There is still 11.5 million consoles to go to get to the same numbers as a wii u. Whereas I think the original wii sold 20 million in its first year. Time will tell.
That's a strange measure to be using. If you want to create a yardstick for the Switch to reach at least make it consistent. At the end of the first full year on the shelves these are the numbers previous consoles have hit:
10mill isn't the target it needs to reach to be on-par with the Wii U, 20mill isn't the number the Wii hit. If the Switch at the end of this calendar year is sitting at around 5mill? It's only doing marginally better than the Wii U and it's a flop. If it's closer to 10mill? Then it's a success. Any higher than that and it's doing very well indeed. With Mario Kart, Splatoon and Mario on the horizon? I think it's in a good spot.
The WSJ is reporting that Nintendo are planning to produce 16mill Switch units by March 2018. So much for the pessimism, it seems that Nintendo are producing enough units for this to sell as fast as the PS4/Wii/3DS. This is Nintendo. The company that people regularly write conspiracy theories involving them limiting supply to artificially create demand.

You really don't get it do you? How many times does it need to be said? The X2 is not available for the consumer market. The chip isn't even ready yet and is targeted for the Automotive market.
Now unless you want to drive around in your Switch, instead of playing games on it.... /shrug
The fact is, the Tegra X1 is the most powerful mobile SoC on the market today and that's why Nintendo went with it.
It's also a second gen custom version of the Tegra X1. So there is a lot under the hood we know nothing about.
When it comes to PS4/XBOne. Have you noticed what kind of cooling and power requirements it requires and how hot the thing gets when playing high graphic games?
Tell me how they could fit that into a mobile device like the Switch? Unless you want to fry eggs with it and recharge the device every 30 minutes.
Just look at top end gaming Laptops, they have to be pretty much hooked up to power at all times.
@faint
Thats not the point. The point is it could have been easily more powerful
No it couldn't! There is no more powerful moible SoC on the market today than the X1.
The Tegra X2 is still not ready and available and when it does later this year it will be for the Automotive market only!
So even if Nintendo had managed to secure a deal with NVidia to use X2 Tech in the Switch, it wouldn't have been able to release the console for another 2 years at least and also not been able to sell for 300 bucks.
And by then we will have Scorpio released and the PS5 announced and we all would have the same discussion about how Nintendo is doomed and the X2 is crap compared to PS5 and Scorpio. /facepalm
