Topic: TATE mode for a noob

Ok, so the switch has fast become my nostalgia console, with quite a collection.

Obviously the mega drive classics, for example, and the recent Namco collections are from old consoles so the screen format is fine but my old arcade collections, I think, would benefit greatly from TATE mode.

The games I am talking about are :

Namco Museum
Space Invaders Invincible Collection
Arcade Archives collection
Arcade Classics archive collection

The problem is, I flip the screen and the controls are then all over the place using buttons from top and bottom, if that makes sense?

So, what is the best way to use TATE mode?

@norwichred tate mode = portait mode. Meaning portrait vs landscape screen orientation.

But I do understand what Tate mode is, but I want to know the best way to use it.

If I switch to Tate mode the controls are all messed up as they use both Joycoms and the switch is difficult to hold.

So how do people actual use their switches in Tate mode and how do they sort the button issue out?

The Flip Grip is arguably the best Switch accessory if you prefer to play in TATE mode portably.

Just adjust a game's orientation before placing it inside the Flip Grip, should be fine.

@norwichred I've never really thought about the flip grip. I don't play TATE a lot but if I do I detach the joy cons and put the tablet on a stand.

Still, the price seems pretty reasonable. I might look up the postage charges or search for a UK seller if you have glowing feedback when you get yours. Let us know.

I’m guessing that charges to Hungary are much higher for some reason. I don’t speak Hungarian and am only stuck here due to Covid so I just paid what they told me.

Anyway - three working days from Arizona to Hungary. Can’t complain about that! Arriving today.

My left joycon is a non wireless third party one so now I need to buy new joycons!

The product itself though? Really clever, robust, well made idea.

If you have any interest in Tate mode then get it for sure! It’s a great product and great service.

Only problem? I’ve had to buy three more games from the Nintendo life best Tate games list, and new Joycons!
