Haven't played this either so pretty excited to try it out. From personal experience, the Tales series is very inconsistent quality wise. I have also heard this one is pretty good so it should be a good one for newcomers.
I know some people who absolutely adore Vesperia, though what I've seen of it in the past doesn't exactly make me interested, even as a JRPG fan (though to be fair, that's true for most story trailers for Xenoblade so...)
The Tales series is very hit or miss. Some of the games that I've played I felt were great like Symphonia and Abyss. While others like Xillia and Graces were kinda meh. Still gonna pick up Vesperia since I've heard great things about it and I generally enjoy the Tales games for the most part.
So is this the new Tales game Namco mentioned last year as I thought they were talking about the next in the series rather than a remake? Not that I'm complaining as I will probably pick this up at some point.

Odds are this is a better game that whatever new one they create. So if you haven't played it before, it's ideal.
Most likely a pass from me. I would've double-dipped on any other game in the series (especially Symphonia), but I've only recently gone through this one and, while enjoyable, it dragged on quite a bit and I'm a bit burnt out from it.
Still, nice to have at least one Tales game on the Switch - the system is perfect for it.
My brother is a JRPG connoisseur. And he tells me this is the pinnacle of the Tales series, and one of his favorite JRPG's he's ever played (he also cites Lost Odyssey, The Last Story, Baten Kaitos, Xenoblade, The World Ends With You, Persona 5 and SMTIV as creme de la creme- just for reference to those wondering if his tastes might align with yours).
In fact, I bought 3 games for Xbox 360 in hopes of BC. Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and Tales of Vesperia.
Tales of Vesperia was the only one that never came.
This is absolutely one of my most hyped games, and along with Valkyria Chronicles 4, The World Ends With You Remix, Fire Emblem, Octopath Traveller, Y's VIII and the excellent Shining Resonance Refrain all on the way (demo out now for EU eShop- go check it out!) I'm floating on clouds over here.

@Yorumi I keep hearing differing opinions on the tales games. People seem to flip flop between Vesperia and Abyss being the best in the series. Symphonia seems to be good but shows it's age quite a bit now a days.
@Yorumi Gotcha. Thanks for taking the time to explain that to me. I value good stories in jrpgs (which is why I've been disappointed by a lot of modern jrpgs tbh). Graces combat looks incredible but I really can't stomach that cliche story from what I've seen of it. Also on an unrelated note if you have a switch I'd love it if we could add each others as friends. You seem like a dope person
Hopefully the dismal christmas release schedule will mean this sells quite well on Switch.
My only annoyance is that it looks like it's just a straight port with 60fps. They don't seem to have improved the textures at all, which they really should have.

Yep. Those were all big motivations for me to get an Xbox. Lost Odyssey especially is very good so far. I don't understand why that was so critically underrated.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Vesperia, but I just played it a couple of years ago, and was hoping Switch's first entry would be one I haven't played before (whether a port of an older game(s) I haven't yet played, like the Symphonia collection or Xillia, or a completely new game, it wouldn't matter to me). I've only played Abyss & Vesperia.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
Pretty excited for this! I've always wanted to play Vesperia. So far I've played Symphonia, Dawn of the New World, Abyss, Zestiria, and Berseria. The only one I've disliked so far was Zestiria but I've heard great things about Vesperia so I'm sure I don't be disappointed.
