Topic: Star Fox on VC?

I'm real glad to see Star Fox and Star Fox 2 on the SNES Classic, but have to start wondering about the Switch's missing Virtual Console again. Will it come? Will these Star Fox games make it to Switch? Emulation must not be a problem anymore. Just wondering what other people thought. Thanks.

@BlueKnight07 Emulation was never a problem, that was an excuse. I suspect it was whoever owns the rights the the Super FX chip now and their cut of the profits. Kinda like why GoldenEye on the N64 never came to the Wii or Wii U.

@Tasuki I had heard there were patent issues in the past, you're probably right. I'm just hoping the games get released on more than the SNES Classic.

My understanding is that a US patent lasts something like 20 years. Which is calculated from the time that the patent is actually given. A process which can take a good few years, hence why you see "patent pending" on products. The first games with the SuperFX chip came out in around 1992 or so. If you do the maths? 20 years since 1992 plus a few years more for the process of getting the patent...

2012, 2013, 2014, 2015...

I reckon the reason we're seeing Super FX games on the SNES Mini is because the patent just expired. I think it's fair to assume that these games will be front and centre when the Switch VC launches.

Goldeneye is super complicated. I'm not sure how it is now but when the Wii remaster came out it was a three way thing. Nintendo, Rare (Microsoft) and Activision all had partial rights to the game in one way or another.

SuperFX was always just a patent thing
