Topic: Sniper Elite 4 for Nintendo Switch

Sniper Elite 4 has officially released! And it’s fantastic, just as expected. Obviously being a current gen game, it doesn’t look quite as good as Sniper Elite v2 and 3 did on Switch (Sniper Elite 3 is one of the best looking games I’ve ever seen on a handheld device) but compared to most other Switch games, it’s still top tier. The resolution isn’t borked, and while it has seen some downgrades, it still looks really impressive.

HD rumble when exhaling before a shot is incredible, and the gyro aiming is probably the most well done of any game I’ve played. Even Nintendo hasn’t nailed gyro this good before. It’s an absolutely exceptional release and with five different difficulties and varying bullet physics, there is a mode for everyone. You can even play the campaign co-op, and there’s multiplayer. And of course, the shooting range available from the main menu is a perfect pit stop before you dig in, to brush up on your sniping skills.

Ok I have to ask.
I have picked this game up as really enjoyed Sniper Elite 3 but am finding that it doesn't allow me to save the game?
I have played (so far) levels 1 (San Celini Island) and 2 (Bitanti Village) and every time I pause the game the "save game" option is greyed out?
When I first downloaded and installed the game and I started to play I noticed that during level 1 at certain times/points in the top right corner the red save icon would appear. That no longer happens.
I played level one to a point where i had to put it down and then when I came back to it it resumed from this "checkpoint" but since then...no save icon and no option to save the game from the pause menu
In fact I had to play the entire level 2 just to get to the end so it would save. Seems to save at the end of a level, just not through it.
I have seen on GameFAQ a question asked that is similar to mine.
Anyone else experiencing this ??

It lets you save, anytime. Except in the first tutorial mission, and/or if you're on the super hard difficulty that prohibits saving. I save constantly.

So either you're not far enough in yet, or you're on a difficulty which prevents it.

Playing on Normal setting and started Regilino Viaduct level. Found that the Save option is back ??
So did a test. Played a bit. Saved. Closed game. Started game and loaded the save. Game started again from where I left it (same position etc) but after playing again for a bit...Save function greyed out again ??

Auto save checkpoints happen automatically anyways so it shouldn’t be an issue regardless, but Idk what’s going on.

Could be that you’re in those in between segments before the mission starts? Don’t think it lets you save then. Or check and see if the difficulty got switched again? Otherwise, Idk. Could be a bug, I guess.

I wouldn’t worry about it though. Autosave has you covered for the most part.

Defiantly not a segment before the game starts. I'm in the game shooting and blowing stuff up.
As for the Auto save...nope that's not working either.
After playing for sometime i went back into settings and looked at the recent game saves. all old.
Previous game save was at 11:41am (that's the one I managed to do in comment #5). Played till 12:25pm and no auto saves shown. Turned game off and just looking at it again now (1:10pm) and only saves showing are those at 11:41am
In fact over this time (45mins approx) there's no auto save icon (red radar like icon that displays top right) and also no option to save the game manually.
Have taken screenshots and submitted a ticket on Rebellion site.

Huh. Strange indeed.

Gotta be a bug, then. What else could it be? Kinda ruled everything else out at this point.

Unless you don’t have space on your internal memory or SD card. Might be worth checking your data management to see if you’re super low on space. I’m running low on ideas... sorry bud

Yeah...got to be a bug. Played for about 2 hours and not once did it auto save or allow me to manually save. Checked this by going into pause menu-load and checking recent saves
BUT I did find....
By deleting all saves (everything that was listed) and then starting the level/campaign I'm on it loaded from the last save point ?? (the one i did at 11:41am)
I actually thought it would start at the beginning of the level but it didn't.
It has started to auto save again and the save option became available.
I think that by doing a manual save it stuffs something up. Theres no other reason. The only common denominator is doing a manual save.
So will not do any manual saves from now on and just let it auto save when it does.
Oh and plenty of room in storage.
Hopefully Rebellion will make contact with the ticket i lodged.

I’m having exactly the same problem.
And its happening on same level, (3 a the viaduct).
It saved fine at 11pm on Thursday, then came to play it today and ‘save’ is greyed out and no autosaves at all. I have 8gb of free storage so thats not the issue.

Gutted tbh, won’t bother playing this again until its fixed.

Who did you email? I will send a report in too.

Should definitely submit a ticket. I havent encountered this issue, but I'd like to keep it that way! I'll submit a ticket too, just to help bring visibility to the issue.

I'm sort of pleased that someone else has experienced this as well.
I did submit a ticket to Rebellion.
They came back and said:
"I am sorry to hear you have been having difficulties. You can only save the game when not in combat. It will be greyed out if you are in combat with the enemy."

I then pointed out that it has nothing to do with being in combat and gave them a breakdown like I explained here in comments 3,5,7 and 9
They then said:
"I will pass this on to the development team to investigate further. We appreciate your thorough explanation."

Haven't heard anything since. That was 1st Dec.

One thing I did find is. I dont know if this will work for you or not. Worse case you start at the beginning of the level again.
I went into the game. Under Single Player - Load Game and I deleted all saves here (Most Recent and Manual Saves)
I went back to Continue Campaign and it loaded from the last save point even through it had been deleted. I honestly thought it would of loaded from the beginning of the level, which i was ok with.
I then found that the Save Game option became available again but more important the auto save function worked.
I'm playing the game now with only auto save function. will not do a manual save.

Can I ask what version did you buy.
I got the Digital Deluxe one with all DLC content.
I know it shouldn't matter (its the same core game) but thought that maybe its specific to one version.

I wonder if it can only store so many saves before running out of slots? Hence why deleting saves makes it work again? Idk.

In the meantime, Switch can just go into sleep mode if you're taking breaks in between, and just letting auto save do its thing should be enough. So hopefully this doesn't really affect you much if you do that.

Yeah have it just doing auto saves now.
Got it "working" by deleting all game saves and restating the level.
Wont touch the manual save option.
Hopefully Rebellion will find a bug - i mean its got to be a bug somewhere.
Anyway enjoying the game again.

I heard back from Rebellion. They asked if “I” was in combat, to which I replied that “I” was not. Haven’t heard from them since, but I’ll keep you posted on any further updates.

Yea, i logged a support issue too, and they emailed today to say its with their developers.

As a work around, i started the whole level again and didn’t use manual save, it started auto saving again. Since then i havent dared use manual save. I’m 2-3 levels on now and its still autosaving.

That’s good to hear. I’ll stop using manual saves myself just in case. The auto save function seemed to work fine so, I don’t imagine it’ll present any issues such as major loss of progress.
