Topic: Online ID

Might be a dumb question but where do you actually create an Online ID? This is my first Nintendo console in a while so I do not currently have an Online ID

I obviously created an account here https://accounts.nintendo.com but all that gave me was a Nickname that was not really unique I am sure not unique enough to be the only person with it.

I seen a story about choose your Online ID now, this was an early March story and the instructions just tell me to edit my profile on accounts.nintendo.com but I dont have an Online ID line, I have a Sign-in ID line but that just looks like a short cut for signing in instead of using my full email address

@ValhallaOutcast Yeah, you've done it right; the 'Sign-In ID' is your unique ID (like a GamerTag), your 'Nickname' will be your online display name - eg. my ID is NaviAndMii - but, if you play an online game with me, my name will be displayed as TomCat★ (my Nickname)

@NaviandMii thanks and Nicknames can be changed?

@ValhallaOutcast I'm pretty sure both can be changed - obviously, your ID can only be changed to something that isn't already taken - but you can change your Nickname to whatever you want, whenever you want, as often as you want! ID can only be changed on the website - Nickname can be changed on the website and the Switch console itself

Thanks what's confusing me is it says don't share your sign in ID which is the unique one

Nicknames are not unique because I was able to use generic names like Mario

Does this mean on Nintendo you could essentially have people with the same nickname displayed in the same lobby?

Not sure why it'd suggest you don't share your ID...? (Nintendo have never fully grasped the idea of a GamerTag!)

...but, yeah, it'd be possible to have to have 2 (or more) people with the same Nickname in the same lobby - that's why I decided to go for something other than just plain ol' 'Tom'
