@TheBigBlue When you consider the movie it makes even less sense.
Like I said, it was weird that Nintendo didn't launch any Mario game in one year aside from Mario+Rabbids 2 (that Ubisoft made). The mainline games take a long time but they usually have multiple Mario spin-offs and/or ports each year. So in that sense I could get how people would be a bit confused about that... But claiming that they "forgot" about him? Even if you exclude the movie it's a weird statement considering that having years without a lot of new games in a franchise should not even be a bad thing.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder (maybe)
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (wish they could have announced a DQIV port with it though)
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 (eventually)
Batman Trilogy (eventually, if performance is good)
Star Ocean: The Second Story R (highlight of the Direct for me)
Probably a 6/10 or 7/10 for me. That said, I usually enjoy most other Directs so I'm not upset. Mario fans and Pikmin fans are eating well so good for them.
It's kind of unfortunate that the P3 remake skipped Switch. I already got the two Persona games I wanted (P4G and P5R) but I have to wonder what Atlus' reasoning is here.
I feel like everything announced here was worth it. Yeah, it was Mario-heavy, but after the Mario movie, this is the best way to capitalize on it.
The releases made sense why some things were absent as well. This absolutely gets us through September when I'm sure we'll see more of some of these games, plus more info on what's coming next year.
Let's also address the (other) elephant in the room, I fully expect that Prime 4 was held off for a better release date. It would get lost this year post-TOTK and Mario. Plus it absolutely deserves its own spotlight.
I also expect Geneology of the Holy War to be a 2024 title over this year. No way two Fire Emblem games release in the same calendar year, the same with Zelda. The Wii U ports were never going to be 2023 releases.

I felt it was a very strong Direct. Lots of variety among both 1st party and 3rd party, a really packed 1st party lineup and some really surprising announcements like the Super Mario RPG remake. There were a few disappointments though, namely the Direct opening with Scarlet/Violet DLC and Splatoon 3 Side Order was absent.
Most exciting announcement for me was the Super Mario RPG remake, not only does it show Square Enix are still willing to support the Switch but also it explains the game's absence from the SNES NSO app. This remake is a far better outcome than it being put on the SNES NSO app.
The person who leaked the word Wonder awhile back for the new mario game has an uncle at Nintendo confirmed.
Great direct overall. I was worried by the long not really new look at Pokemon DLC at the start, but between Mario Wonder (hoped for but not quite expected) and the Peach game (out of the blue), consider me sold.
Seeing Vampire Survivors coming out for Switch genuinely surprised me. I've been meaning to get it on PC and probably going to double dip on Switch. Having played the mobile version (no this isn't like those mobile games), it's quite fun and easy to get hooked on playing. I'm glad this one coming out on Switch.
Knew about Sonic Superstars, but still happy it appeared. Though, I was not expecting a new Princess Peach game to be revealed. I want to know more about it. Loving how Penny's Big Breakaway looks so far. Looking forward to Detective Pikachu Returns.
Very happy with the Direct. Didn't have a great afternoon, but seeing it made my day better. I was out when it went live so watched later in the day, only Super Mario Wonder and Detective Pikachu were spoiled for me.
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
Pretty much what I expected out of a late console Direct although clearly they expect the tail for the Switch to wag a bit. Lots of simpler games like 2D platformers, lots of remasters and ports to pad out the lineup
Still no Metroid Prime 4. At this point I'm thinking it's going to be cross-gen and they're holding out showing anything until they can show it in its best light. Even so, it's a bit insane how we still haven't seen anything
With that said, there were a lot more ports than I was expecting. And I mean that in a good way. Everyone was so obsessed with Wind Waker HD or Metroid Prime 2/3 we forgot that Pikmin is coming out. Also a Port of Luigi's Mansion 2? Nobody was talking 3DS ports. And the Super Mario RPG remaster? It looked fair. Not a revelation but still, not complaining
Also the 2D Mario looks to be pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. And that's good enough for me
8/10 overall
10/10 given where we are in the cycle
