@Grumblevolcano I really don't see how LEGO sets, the Olympics, additional merchandise or Nintendo World opening benefit existing Switch users. Would've been poor planning regardless in that case.
@Octane the thing is Nintendo actually makes a profit of their consoles so that is a huge business incentive for them. While on the other hand xbox and PlayStation make all their money off the games. So xbox and PlayStation are incentivized to get more games out which makes back the money they lost on their system while for nintendo that would be great but system sales are a huge profit maker.
@sixrings ''We can't develop enough games for Switch, so please buy this useless retro console instead'' isn't going to fly well I think.
I personally not really interested in even more ports. We've had plenty of them I think. I mean, a remaster is fine, but when it's used to fill in the schedule that would otherwise have new games, then I'm not a big fan of it. I think they should make their older titles available on the digital store (applies to all companies, at least Microsoft is giving you a free digital copy if you own the (select) OG Xbox games). If that Mario collection is a €60 bundle with 64, Sunshine and Galaxy they can keep it. For that price they'd have to be completely remastered. But I'm not sure I'd want that. For that price I'd maybe prefer a €5 digital copy of Mario 64 on the eShop.
Same with the Prime Trilogy. They've sold that one so many times now, it should come with their consoles by default lol.
Start talking about Pikmin 4, Metroid Prime 4, BOTW 2, a new IP maybe? Then I'll listen.
I agree. But I think they will be remastered or, I just wouldn’t see this as a big deal, except for core collectors.
There will be an announcement for the fall. The only question is how big the announcement will be. Does Nintendo essentially concede the holiday season to Sony and MSFT? If all we get is the remasters, then they essentially are. But I think the conditions for a big holiday season are favorable, given all of the new Switch owners and a 35 year anniversary should be favorable for a big cash in.

Exactly. That stuff is ancillary at best. Maybe long term it becomes a profit center. As I mentioned above, the conditions are ripe for a big cash in if they play their cards right.
@Octane It wouldn't but Nintendo's focus wouldn't be existing Switch owners, it would be new Switch owners that'll be buying the existing catalog like BotW, MK8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, etc.
The existing Switch owners would be looking at the exciting 2021 lineup announced at E3.
@Grumblevolcano I wondered if Nintendo's plan was to synergize marketing campaigns with mario bros 35th anniversary. If universal mario world opened around when mario game remasters released, it could help bolster the nintendo & mario brand visibilty, hype. And I imagine Mario & Sonic mascots would be visible at olympic venues. I think nintendo planned on being very visible at the tokyo Olympics too.
without nintendo land or the olympics , nintendo doesnt really have much left to do except the mario remaster and/or a new trailer for metroid prime 4, bayonetta 3?
hopefully a teaser for a new f-zero or pikmin? i'll take anything at this point. also, concerning the mario remasters, i believe that galaxy 1+2 would be bundled together with a retail price of $60, mario 64 as a standalone release for $40, a straight-up port of sunshine for $20 (digital only) i also think that 3d world will be ported with some new characters and that it might be bundled with a new platformer??? ($60)
Any game announcement from one of Nintendo's dorment IPs would be a very welcome sight. Be it Star Fox, F-Zero, Kid Icarus or even Wario Land.
Getting to know the next Smash Bros character is also always exciting for me. Especially now during the second fighters pass in which all bets are off. I feel like any character can join Smash right now, but I still think Rex from XC2 has the most chance.
For me personally, I'm most looking forward to Monolith Soft's next game, although I don't expect an announcement for that until E3 2021.
@FlashBoomerang That’s a whole 2 week window, which is the laziest type of rumour. Plus anyone who thinks it would be anything more than another Partner Showcase should just stop getting excited right now.

at this point i think they’re deciding to take an l for 2020 and they’re gonna hit hard in 2021, which will include delayed 2020 games and games planned for 2021
@Octane So, in terms of numbers, Japan isn't doing bad. But Japanese people are terrified of the virus and taking it, almost, possibly, a bit much. Japanese people have no issue with wearing masks and 90% of them already wore them regularly. But some people are very frightened. My friend's wife tried very hard to talk him out of helping me haul my luggage to Tokyo - not out of spite to me or anything, but fear of the virus. And Japan shut down almost everything despite having far fewer cases. Though they have since largely resumed life as normal for business. But masks are everywhere and many stores have turned their greeters into temperature checking professionals.
