Hi, first time on the forum, my wife is about to get a switch lite off santa ..... and she already has a regular switch.
Shes looking forward to playing the soon to be released animal crossing game but she has a question. Can she play the game on the switch and then carry on from where she left off while playing it on her switch lite? She has a nintendo account at the moment on her regular switch but shes not sure if that matters? Where does the game save, the individual console or her nintendo account which i presume is shared across the two consoles?
@Fender9288 save files are stored locally in the switch, and those with an online subscription can have their save files backed up online.
Animal Crosing in particular won't have access to cloud saves though.
However, every switch save file can be transferred from one system to another directly via local communication, so to switch between consoles she'd just need to transfer the save file.
You just need to press + while highlighting the game in the home menu, and one of the options there lets you transfer save data. Just follow the on screen directions from there and you're done.
On the outside chance you didn't know, you can search questions like yours on Nintendo's support page. I only say that because, many new Switch owners aren't aware that Nintendo's support page is a pretty good resource. If you already know, you can disregard this post.
If you want to be able to play a game, stop, and resume on a second switch, you can do that if you make one switch your primary console, and the other your secondary. This link describes setting up a primary and secondary switch. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a...
@Fender9288 : In order for your wife to transfer her save data from the main Switch to the Switch Lite, she will need to have her NNID/profile linked to both consoles. But bear in mind that for a game like Animal Crossing, transferring save data also counts as changing/resetting the clock in-game, which may not be ideal for a game that relies on real-time mechanics (which often penalise you for changing the time). I found this out the hard way with Pokémon Sword and Shield. It may not be a dealbreaker for her, but it's just another factor to take into consideration.
Save data is also stored in the system memory, so, when you transfer save data, it is moved from the system memory of one console to another.
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
Thanks for the great help everyone, that makes sense. Its only a couple of days now so not long to find out first hand.
Have a great Christmas and thanks again for the info
