First of all as a big metroid fan theres no question that I want all the metroid games in the world because there amazing, beautiful & fun games. If I get any information wrong please forgive me.
So I want:
Everything that makes Metroid Prime series a success, but just build upon it without ruining it, It CAN be done.
These will be split up into 2 parts = Part 1: Possible, simplified, doable things/Quality of life,
Part 2: Future Metroid games 10 years+ on should have.
Be aware part 1 and part 2 may have duplicate things but part 1 is easy stuff to do in metroid and part 2 is harder stuff to do in a game from where they are now in the metroid Franchise.
MP=Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2 and 3 Remastered like prime 1 remastered.
Metroid prime 4, 5 and 6.
Part 1. Easy things to implement from a design/technical standpoint within 10 years.
New suits, Gadgets, abilities, improved graphics from MP3, changing worlds/areas, game currency, shop via console/vending machine (no npc required), more rewards for scanning things, fast travel (when unlocked), Dialogue/voice acting with NPC’s, To be able to run, Bigger game/worlds/rooms, tidier smarter & cleaner HUD, ship abilities, Better map, mark map with point of interest to come back to later, Better/faster Combat, Better/Cleaner thermal visor vision, FOV setting to see more on screen, Better colours use of colours, more puzzles, on screen counter showing how many usable power cells you have for unpowered doors, End after credits cutscene for collecting and completing above 80% and 2nd cutscene for 100%
Part 2. Harder things to implement into a game from a design/technical standpoint 10 years+
MP: New suits
Via Story, & cosmetics via shop
MP: New Gadgets
Torch/light suit upgrade to see in really dark spots or you could charge the charge beam to project light in an area so you can see in front of you.
MP: New Abilities/aeon abilities
Stamina bar for screw attack and running. To run, Stamina Tanks (New Item Green tank) increases stamina.
MP: unreal engine graphics/physics/lighting
(Don’t have to be super realistic as just an improvement/looks Nice/clean is Fine)
(us fans don’t expect GoW graphics)
MP: Ever changing/growing world(s)
This has been a thing in modern metroid games like getting rid of poison in water to open new locations, destroying debris, draining water/sand, removing toxic ground/air.
This could be built upon like finding a trashed/messy room/Hub Center/landing pad and you, Ally or the federation comes to clean it up when you progress in game in another area/world. That way you feel like time is moving forward and your progressing in the game.
Its already in MP1,2,3 to a point as when you progress in the game stronger enemies show up in sections they may of not previously been. So just do it for debris, should be easy enough.
MP: Fast travel (a must have) via Teleport booth like 2d metroid games.
(still have elevators &/or monorail/tram in games) Because back tracking is fine but don’t make it to a point where its grewling, tedious & I can’t be bothered to go all the way through multiple levels and enemies to get where I need to be.
MP: A FOV = Field of view setting/option. When metroid 3d came out we had box tv’s still (i did anyway), now we have very big tv’s with wide screen. (a must have)
MP: Currency in the game and a shop. (FederationCredits)
(Zelda's have it. Mario oddesy has it, it just makes sense. Hear me out. Now I know what your thinking I don’t want my upgrades in a shop, I want to go find them in the game, I get it.
But in metroid samus returns game they introduced missile expansions give you 3 missiles not 5. And super missiles where in there own section.
I think this is a great idea because who here spams missiles and just nukes everything. Especially super missiles. Thats what made elemental pirate enemies in MP1 so fun and a challenge, you couldn’t just spam missiles or your strongest beam at them.
Theres 50 missile expansions in Metroid Prime 3 with 5 times 50 = 250 + 5 at start of the game.
3 times 85 = 255 missiles total. Minus 75 missile expansions for discovery in MP4
(way more than MP3’s 49) = 9 missile expansions to sell in shops. 3 missiles when unlocked.
And some of the 75 missile expansions could be Missile Expansion+ rewarding 6 missiles instead of 3. (like missile expansion+ in Metroid Samus returns 2017 on 3ds)
It could also sell 1 Energy Tank as I would increase total energy tanks to 15 not 14 like most metroid games so your not losing out on discovering the 14 energy tanks in game.
It could sell 1 Power bomb (when unlocked) as you would start off with 2 when unlocking it, giving 5 to discover, 8 Total. (only 8, power bombs are overpowered)
It could sell 3 Super missile expansions (when unlocked), 11 super missile expansions to discover, 2 super missiles when unlocked. Total 30 super missiles.
It could sell 1 ship missile expansion (when unlocked), 3 to discover, 2 when unlocked, 6 Total.
So in Total it could sell:
1 energy tank, 1 stamina tank, 1 power cell, 1 bomb expansion (when unlocked), 1 super bomb expansion (when unlocked) 9 missile expansions (when unlocked) 3 Super missile expansions (when unlocked) and 1 Ship missile expansion (when unlocked) Total: 18 upgrades to buy.
And I ran the Numbers Most collectables in a metroid game is 103, or at least thats what I got.
My collectables mentioned above is 150 to collect, but lets say 1/3 of those missile expansions are expansion+ and give you 6 missiles instead of 3. 1/3 of 82 = 27, 150 - 27 = 123, 123 - 18 upgrades in shop = 103.
So there you have it people your not going to miss out on discovering collectables in the game.
Your actually bang on the money 103, 131 if you count all missile expansions as 3 missiles & not 1/3 as 6.
I did the math so you didn’t have to…
MP: More Rewards for scanning things than just “recorded to logbook.”
What if you scanned things and creatures not just to unlock/lock doors and find weaknesses.
You could simply scan dead federation bodies to collect there federation credits
(like when you search containers in games and find 9 dollars, and creatures are fixed currency 5 credits per new enemy can be linked with the recorded to logbook progress.
MP: More open world areas/rooms like Metroid Prime 3 slightly did.
(Metroid isn’t an open world, but having big areas/rooms to explore is nice and we know its possible because of games like breath of the wild.
Now I’m not wanting metroid to be that big.
But it could expand from its current form eventually, baby steps.)
MP: Tidier/smarter HUD < heads up display.
(I find that the HUD takes up a lot of room in the First person view. That theres a lot of space between the hud displays and the screen border. If we could tidy it up, smarten it up that would be fantastic. But of course keep samus’s Visor Border in the game still.)
Another thing I’ve noticed on the HUD with the visors and the beams. Is that combat visor and normal beam get switched out constantly with others why not have the new beams/visor go over the normal ones, that way you could have 1 extra visor 1 extra beam, total: 5 beams 5 visors. Think about it.
MP: Improved Map, mark a point/room on you map to come back to at a later date to get.
Scanning a upgrade you can see but can’t get marks it on you map automatically to come back to. Or when currently in scanned form of an item maybe you could manually press A to mark it on your map. Compass on HUD would be nice.
MP: Side Missions/Quests, kill 20 of these, collect 10 of these, Clear out an infestation of bugs, scan these consoles, Bounty kill this pirate boss, clear this debris, scan these 3 enemy types.
Dead end rooms that you have cleared/got upgrade from, u usually don’t ever go back there for anything so you could put a side mission objective to go back there later on in the game. Ie destroy a new infestation of wasps, ants, bats.
MP: More puzzles, using beams, visors, environment, maybe using gyro on controller.
MP: Better colours/more vibrant. The metroid prime games got a bit more colourful as they went on but nowhere as near as some other metroid games.
MP: Better enemies, faster enemies, most enemies weren’t a threat in the Metroid Prime’s like it was in 2d metroid games. It was 2d so you couldn’t go around. The old control sceme on gamecube was good at the time, but we have better controls now so we need the game/enemies pace to be quicker.
MP: Dialogue/voice acting with NPC’s again (Metroid Prime 3) doesn’t have to be a lot of it, and samus doesn’t need to talk either like link in BotW.
MP: Explorable systems/ships/asteroids (Metroid Prime 3) gives the player something to look forward to explore.
MP: An Inventory, for collecting things. Enemy horn, venom, hide, shell, silk, scrap, blue red green access card, collected power cells for unpowered doors.
MP: More Locked doors ideas like needing authorisation codes (Metroid Prime 2) finding or being given them. Grappling them (Metroid prime 3)
MP: Bring Back things from previous Metroid games. Spring ball, Ship abilities, Ship landing pads, teleporters.
MP: Day and night cycle (Not necessary & not important, I don’t see this ever happening and to be fair it might not work with metroid prime, but would be cool) Different enemies at night to daytime.

Thanks for listening, and reading if you got down to the bottom here...
I had an idea for what would’ve happened after Fusion. I assumed Samus would be wanted by the federation due to the events and her comments in the epilogue seemed to imply it as well. I thought the story would go she would be arrested and taken to a penal planet having her power suit stripped from her. Then something would happen in the planet (pirate attack? X parasites? Ancient alien eldritch horror awakens on the planet?) and she has to escape getting her suit back bit by bit to access different areas of the prison planet before eventually escaping.
There seem to be a lot of 'open world' space games these days so maybe a Metroidvania set in space with a very small number of planets to explore but each is rich and deep.
If the quality of MP4 is high, the most important thing from my perspective is that they try and keep the development team together and they move straight on to MP5, with the aim of a release before the end of the decade.
@GameOtaku
Oh yes thats a given, a new game after Metroid Dread...
They said dread was going to be the last metroid game in the timeline.
But after it did so well in sales and fans wanted more, they decided to maybe develop a new metroid game after dread.
Now it may be in development, it may not, it may be the same guys that did Dread or it may be someone else. 2d 3d who knows.
But yes it seems that samus and the federation are not on friendly terms. So that idea of escaping the federation/corrupt federation would be cool to see. 3d hopefully Metroid prime 7, but don't mind me, I love love the prime series.
A Pet would be cool, maybe a baby Metroid or species x or other, they could all do different things.
Baby metroid could carry samus from morph ball on to high platforms or across bridges, drain power from things.
Species x could take a suit from samus and there would be 2 samus''s or a samus morph ball giving you help as a morph ball because you can't do both a once.
or an animal thats indigenous to the planet that just distracts the enemy or does nothing but be there.
If any of these where to happen it would be a future metroid game. Maybe after Dread as she is a metroid pretty much.
This is more something I think they'll do than what I want, but I'm thinking they might go a bit more back to basics with the powerups. Prime 2 and 3 went wild with some of the powerups replacing well known classics with more exotic ones that fit the games' themes (for example: Prime 2 had the Dark, Light, and Annihilator Beams replacing the Wave, Ice, and Plasma Beams, the Dark and Light Suit, while Prime 3 had Phazon abilities replacing classic weapons like the Super Missile and Power Bombs). This time, I think because of the length of time since Prime 3, I think they revisit more of the classic abilities to reintroduce them to newer fans. I think the powerup list might look a little more like this:
Returning abilities:
Varia Suit (start)
Combat Visor (start)
Scan Visor (start)
Power Beam (start)
Charge Beam (start)
Morph Ball (start)
Spring Ball (start)
Missiles
Morph Ball Bombs
Space Jump
Grapple Beam (now with Grapple Lasso functionality folded in)
Wave Beam
Seeker Missiles (now has the option to fire multiple missiles at a smaller number of targets instead of just 1 missile per target)
Boost Ball
Ice Beam
Spider Ball
X-Ray Visor
Gravity Suit
Power Bombs
Plasma Beam
Screw Attack
I don't really have any ideas for new upgrades, but I do think there should be 1 new Suit upgrade and 1 new Visor upgrade at least, I'm just not sure what those should be. If they can find a way to make Speed Booster work well in 3D that would be a great addition, albeit not necessarily something "new".
Also torn on Super Missiles. Storm Missiles seem to be a better version of what Super Missiles are going for which might make them redundant, but I do like having optional powerups for each of the beam combos. I also want to see them revisit the scrapped Power Bomb combos they had planned for Prime 2, but I'm unsure how they would implement them.
I think that my big idea would ultimately be that Retro/Nintendo get to make the game that they want to make and don't bow to the fans. I don't want a landmark title to a backwards looking fan service game. I'd also be happy if they take risks in the gameplay systems. I want to be surprised, I don't want a game made by internet forum committee.
That said - a big part of the appeal of Metroid has always been the atmosphere and feeling of isolation. I disliked the chatty companions in Prime 3 and really disliked the AI in Fusion (though it was fine when dialed back a lot in Dread).
Personally I'd like them to think more in the sense of "we're making a sci-fi 3d version of Hollow Knight" rather than "we're making a higher spec version of Metroid Prime". Hollow Knight pushed the Metroidvania template forwards IMO - with multiple (occasionally entirely optional) routes through the game built in and most obstacles having 2 or 3 alternate ways of overcoming them. Mechanically it felt new to me.
I'd also be fairly happy if they make "Metroid Breath of the Wild". Although I know that some would be upset about losing tightly constructed puzzle regions in Metroid (as they were with dungeons in BoTW) I think the general sense of "you're alone in this world and you can go and do what needs to be done as soon as you've gathered whatever you think you need" suits Metroid really well. Super Metroid was in many important ways a sci-fi skinned side scrolling version of Zelda alttp so the development analogue has always been there.
Of course it might be a stretch to imagine Metroid ever becoming like BoTW - a game where you descend into ancient tunnels bored by a long gone but technologically advanced race, the remnants of whom sit, heads bowed, at the end offering you an orb containing a power-up. Also Samus uses a laser gun and not a bow and arrow that fires ancient arrows like Link.
Samus is transporting the most dangerous criminal in the galaxy. but she manages to escape, sabotage the ship and it crash lands on a mysterious planet (tm). You need to investigate, scan and track down the criminal. However, later in the game, it is discovered that the planet is more dangerous than they thought and need to team up, protecting each other and keep themselves alive to find a way off the planet. Hahahah. No idea.
@StuTwo I was actually thinking something similar to a Mega Man-esque system would be great for an "open world" Metroid. The game would have sort of a "soft" sequence where there's an intended order and collecting powerups in a particular order makes it easier to get to particular areas, but the game would allow and even encourage skilled players to use sequence breaking techniques and other such creative means to bypass them. Never played Hollow Knight so I never knew that there's a game that already sort of does what I have in mind.
I don't think Metroid needs to go full BotW. Metroid was already basically sci-fi Zelda up until BotW as you said, but now that Zelda's gone in a different direction, having Metroid remain where it is helps it have more of a distinct identity and gives fans that like the ALttP/OoT formula something similar.
The only ideas that immediately interest me in terms of changing the formula are maybe having some larger areas instead of making the entire game a series of doors to constantly get through (basically imagine the larger rooms from 1 but greatly expanded) and with that in mind adding some of the speed of the modern Doom games (not all of it because Metroid exploration is still different enough).
I honestly think unless they have some incredibly solid idea that effortlessly fits well into Metroid in mind, that I otherwise just want Prime 4 to be not much more of a change than the other Prime sequels were. Prime 5, maybe, but after so long the first thing Prime 4 should be is a good new Metroid Prime game, a thing that's not happened since 2007.
@kkslider5552000
True, I think Metroid prime 4 won't be much different from prime 1, 2 & 3 but 5 and 6 will be built upon like 2 & 3 was with 1.
Only time will tell.
I think prime 4 will revolve around a prime again (obviously: prime 4) But instead of it taking samus again, it will take Sylux, and we will have Dark Sylux to defeat.
MPrime 5 could be fighting Sylux and dark Sylux
MPrime 6 we team up with Sylux to defeat dark Sylux
