Hey Nintendo!!! It's been 6 years without a proper Mario kart game (Not counting deluxe. That was another dlc for mario kart 8). Please make a new one? I'm tired of the tracks!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't want DLC for any game that isn't on PC. Give us a new installment.
One of the reasons why I was so keen on grabbing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was precisely because the DLC content from the Wii U version was on the cartridge. I would have been quite angry if Nintendo were to release DLC for a game that was already promoted as a "Deluxe" release (as they did with Pokkén with it's ridiculously overpriced DLC which only included two new characters).
While one entry in most of Nintendo's franchises is sufficient per console, I would rather have a new Mario Kart game than DLC packs any day of the week. DLC is locked to a single NNID and is often grossly overpriced relative to the base game. Rarely have I purchased DLC and felt like I received my money's worth, but even then, it's also disheartening because it means that the content on the disc/cartridge is incomplete and cannot be preserved for prosperity without hacking the console (which I would rather avoid).
I personally want a new release since I feel like Mario Kart 8 has ran its course. Also, I am always eager to see the new improvements to the gameplay with each new game.

I can't see there being a new game anytime soon, MK8 Deluxe is the best selling game on the platform and continues to sell millions of copies, why would Nintendo kill that cash cow?
The ship has sailed for MK8D DLC, if we were getting that we would've gotten it in 2017-2018. They're working on the next game, and I think we'll see it this year, next year at the very latest.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,251 games (as of April 24th, 2024)

Since every console got its own Mario Kart, I feel cheated that the Switch hasn't gotten its own. Switch got its own mario party, mario odyssey. Mk8 is 6 years old now. I understand the points above, but I'm still disappointed.
I've been desperate for DLC for a long time now but I really can't see it happening now. It's been far too long and 8D still sells at a crazy rate. I think even if they had/have MK9 ready this year I don't think it'll get released until next year at the earliest.

I genuinely don’t see the point in Mario Kart 8 DLC or a Mario Kart 9 for Switch, not when the original is still in the top 10 three years after release. Mario Kart 9 should be saved for the next generation of console, when they can do some really bat guano crazy stuff with new hardware.
However, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get another Nintendo racer. Whether that’s a Double Dash, Wave Rider, F-Zero or snowboarding or whatever, it’s not a huge deal. It should just be something different.
Here's an easy way for Nintendo make a lot of money with the Mario Kart series, without going full bore into a new production:
Rebrand Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as Mario Kart Infinity (just move the 8 below/behind the logo)
Add DLC content (and do a limited physical release) to include:
All previous Nintendo-owned racers (DK Jr., Diddy, Paratrooper, Petey Piranha, ROB, Funky Kong, Honey Queen, Wiggler)
New racers and some re-skins (Pauline, Kamek, Nabbit, Pom Pom, Wart, E. Gadd, Tanooki Mario, etc.)
New cups with a mixture of new tracks and remastered tracks (Six Cups, 24 total tracks)
A few remastered Battle Courses
New Menu screens and assets
It would basically be like producing half of a game (or a little less), essentially making it MK8.5.
Charge $40 for the DLC. I guarantee at least 80% of MK8 owners would buy it and it would prolong a full MK9 production for another 4 years.
@Dark_Magician I had a theory Nintendo was planning to coordinate the release of the next Mario Kart with Super Mario World. It's a weak theory, but it's something I've wondered about. I wouldn't expect the console version to be VR, but perhaps the first person view would be a feature/option. First person view was an option in MK7. (can't help notice VR has no drifting, though)

That seems too high of a percentage imo, Mario Kart’s audience has a big chunk of kids and casuals who aren’t the most interested in paying for extras.
The lack of DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe leads me to think that Nintendo is likely working on Mario Kart 9. I recently watched a youtube video where the guy was talking about the window between game releases and how right now matches up with that timeframe. A bit of a stretch for sure, but mk8d being nintendo's best selling switch game to this date, i guarantee they are looking to start fresh with another title to rake in the big bucks. It really wouldn't cannibalize the series either, I mean 8 has already sold gangbusters and the number I'm sure are getting somewhere stagnant at this point.

Agreed. Probably 1/3 of the audience has played it since the WiiU. A good chunk since launch. Those new to the series will come around. I think we get MK9 by next year at this time. Imo, they would be leaving so much $$$ on the table if the wait til next console.
