Topic: Linking switch to epic games account for fortnite

Finally allowed my son to have fortnite on his switch for his birthday (best present ever apparently and it was for FREE) so I went through the whole process of setting up, set up an epic games account linked them both up and when it came to starting the game it didn’t automatically take him to the game (like every YouTube video explained it would) it kept asking to enter display name, which we would and it would say already in use, so then would try entering login details and it would say login failed, yet the login details worked perfectly fine to login to epic games, had me stressed to bits. Finally my son just entered a different display name and he got in and was playing it fine. However a day later my daughter decides I want fortnite now so she downloads game, waits almost a day and when it finally downloads she gets straight in BUT under the name I had set up for my son. They are both able to play BUT how on Earth has this happened and can anyone advise if this will cause a problem anytime in the future when it comes to playing fortnite? I managed to change my daughters display name by logging into my epic games account but if say my son wants to change his how do I do that?? As I don’t know where he is linked to. It was his console that I originally set and linked everything up from.........I’m confused and need help as this is blowing my mind

I went through something similar this weekend!

When you login to Fortnite for the first time on any system it kind of makes an epic account but doesn’t finish the process

Go to epicgames.com

Login using the platform you played on so in this case Switch and enter the switch login details (it should take you to a Nintendo login)

Then it should go back to Epicgames and tell you that it found the Nintendo account and ask you to finish making an epic account

Then you can unlink it from the account you just made and login with your regular epic account and link it

@Leanne5174 I'll take a stab, here. A couple things.... For Fortnite, I think you're only allowed one game profile per email address. (if that's not your issue disregard)

Also, I found some things have to be done in your account on the epic website for them to take. So, if you're failing to set something up in-game, go to the website with your computer or phone.

Fortnite was made for other platforms first, like PC, ps4, xbox. And some things that look like you can log in while in-game on the Switch, are actually dead parts/pages from the original version of the game. Bringing Fortnite to the Switch was an afterthought (switch didn't exist when they originally developed fortnite).

Side note: Before quarantine, epic games usually responded within a couple hours via email, which was respectable, in case you wonder about their support.

Let me know what you're stuck on, if you're still stuck. Im in the US, and recklessly up past my bedtime in case i don't respond for the next 7 hours, you know why.

Edit: Forgive me, I didn't see @yarrdave until after i posted. But more help is good!

So, sorry I am totally new to all this. How has both my kids ended up being able to play fortnite on their own individual consoles, when I have one epic games account which I set up from one console but has managed to register the other instead......I don’t know if I am missing something here. You need an epic game account to play fortnite right?? So my son was first to be set up, I logged in to epic games via my Nintendo switch account, I followed all the required instructions yet somehow my son is playing under a different display name (haven’t got a clue what account he is linked to) and my daughter is playing under my sons original name......this has really confused me. Like I say they are both playing fine at min but they are new so as they get more into the game I don’t want issues arising what is going to require me to log into epic games to resolve but I don’t know how my son is set up. In my head I know what I’m saying I don’t know if I am explaining it correctly though ha ha sorry. Is there a way on my sons console or the fortnite game I can see what epic game account he is linked to?? Maybe that might help

It’s mainly because the Nintendo account would have linked to a new epic account that isn’t fully setup

That’s why you need to login at epicgames.com but choice the Nintendo login option this will then tell you that it’s found the Nintendo account and ask you to create an epic account you’ll need to use a different email address and then you can unlink the Nintendo and epic account

Login to your main epic account and manually link the Nintendo account

Hopefully that makes sense

Another thing you can check are your emails Nintendo should have emailed you and let you know the epic account that has linked

Unfortunately in the epic account it just shows as linked to a Nintendo account whereas the Sony and Microsoft accounts show the name

I spent about 2 hours at the weekend sorting this out because I linked my son to the wrong account I linked his epic account to a spare Nintendo account I use and not the one is made for him ......

Did you get this sorted out? I think I might have linked my son's Epic games account to my nintendo account, so I Unlinked them, but now I cannot connect his Epic to his Nintendo account. Apparently the Epic account can only be linked to the email originally linked, which was the wrong one. Please help. I've spent 12 hours on this today. I'm in my own personal hell.
