Topic: Is Dragon Quest VII on Switch 1 going to suffer?

Just looking at the games graphics I worry the game may struggle on the original Switch to run well. I know Sparking Zero can run on the original Switch but the graphics are a downgrade and so far every video of game play for the games seems to be on the Switch 2 or PS5. I do prefer to have physical copies of Dragon Quest games so that is why I want to get the game on Switch if possible, but if the game is going to suffer I will just buy it on PC.

What does everyone else think? I heard others mention the game should run like Dragon Quest XI S but that is an older game. The game probably began development 3-4 years and I read Nintendo was sending out Switch 2 dev kits in 2021 and early 2022 and Square Enix probably got one early so I can see the game being developed first for the Switch 2.

@linkx77 The game's more or less an HD rework of a PSOne title, I seriously doubt the game will struggle unless Squeenix does a terrible job at optimizing the game. That said it obviously won't be the smoothest running or the prettiest port of the game, but again, there's no reason it wouldn't run well unless Square does a poor job with the port

@linkx77
I personally will pick the PS5 version for smooth 60 fps over than Switch 1 version that will struggle in maintaining fps.
It's a simple choice for me as I have both Nintendo and PlayStation machines.

I HAVE BEEN CHANGED.... FOR GOOD. 💚💗

OmnitronVariant

@TensuraFan7 It's an entirely new engine, and a complete remake on a technical rendering level and asset level. So the original being a PS1 game doesn't have any relevance to this remake's hardware requirements.

@OmnitronVariant Right, I was about to say this. You guys gotta stop saying, "blank blank was on ex, system so it should run fine", "the original was 60fps". If it's a remake might as well be a new game and treat it as such. In a perfect would things would run better but developers place importance on certain things most of the time like graphics over performance (though not everyone does this).

It'll neither run as well nor look as crisp as the ports for stronger platforms, that's a given.

@KaiserGX

Also, its Square-Enix. Even on the best of days they tend to be bad about optimization and scalability.
