I got a new Nintendo Switch on Friday to play Sonic Mania. When I first got it, I could press the home button to select the option to go to sleep. Or I could press the power button to go to sleep straight away.
However, since yesterday, if I press the home button, the sleep menu appears, but I can't select any of the options (If I press the controller buttons, it just controls the game as if the menu isn't there).
The same happens if I hold down the power button: The menu appears on the screen but I can't select any of the options.
Also before, if I pressed the home button, the home menu would appear instantly. Now it takes a good 5 seconds to appear.
I Googled around and found that holding the power button for 20 seconds will turn off the Switch and fix the issue.
I did this, but when I turn the Switch back on the issue occurs again.
How can I get it back to normal? I assume this is just a software issue and so wouldn't need a hardware repair.
Sonic Mania have some issues with the system functions on the Switch. Home and Screenshots buttons have serious delay issues usually. You probably were ingame while experiencing those problems right?
I suggest to just press the Home button (not for too long) and wait until you have the chance to exit the game, it could took several seconds, if you see that it does not respond at all try again after some time, once you exit Sonic mania Switch should get back to normal and be fully responsive to Home button inputs.
They stated they are working on a fix for this problem this game has, I hope they will release the patch soon.
If you get stuck on the sleep menu try going back to the main menu of the game. I had this problem once and when I got back to the game's start menu I was able to use the console's sleep menu
