Good day, I have bought my lad Fifa 19 for his Switch. He now wants to play his dad, which I thought would be easy with the controls but my hands are a little big. I have tried to find out if I bought a switch lite and fifa 19 for that, could we play against each other with out the need for wifi? Just sat next to each other. Would they connect via Bluetooth or something?
Local Wireless is a feature on the Switch yes. I can't answer for FIFA specifically, but technically the Switch connects together via Ad-Hoc Wifi I believe, meaning you do not need a router in between the two. It works the same was as playing together on the DS/3DS/GBA with adapter. It doesn't work in airplane mode (unsurprisingly).
@Djtc954 I don't have fifa, but when i look on fifa 19's eshop page, it says it supports "split joy-con" play, and "local wireless 2 player".
Split Joy-con means you can do multiplayer one console. (i don't know if that means splitscreen in this case, or playing against each other, or or playing together on the same team).
If you have multiple consoles, you can play Local Wireless using the console's Bluetooth-like systems to play with each other. (no internet or wifi router needed).
Not all third party games support local wireless, but some do. Mario Kart 8 is fun with the local wireless play. I usually end up using split joy-con multiplayer with friends or friends kids on vacation at the beach - at night or on rainy days.
@Djtc954 If you're struggling with the size of the controller, I'm assuming you're using split Joy-con? I've got small hands and I struggle to use them that way. You're better off just buying a Pro controller to play with your lad on the same console. Saves you from buying another console and 2nd copy of the game.
It's a little pricey for just a controller but it's worth it in my opinion. Your lad will be able to make use of it too. You can get an unofficial one for cheaper but they're not as good quality.
