Mario > Doom
But theyre totally different games..
If you can only afford 1 then go with Mario while you can get Doom on PS4 or X1 for like 15 bucks or even less on PC.

Super Mario Odyssey hands down, Doom is more likely to get price drops or sales in the future, plus, Mario can transform into a T-Rex, I don’t think anyone from Doom can do that

This is really up to what kind of game you like more and if you can play doom on another platform or not like previously mentioned.

For the Switch Mario hands down.

For one thing you can get Doom on other systems much cheaper now. Also beings that Doom is a third party game on the Switch it will eventually drop in price for that as well. First party games especially Mario games rarely drop in price.

Personally I'm getting Doom ASAP and am willing to wait for Mario, but it's significant that I already have a bunch of games on the Switch including some major timesinks. Mario almost definitely will give you more to do and keep you occupied for longer.

This is a really subjective thing. I personally don't care about DOOM at all but am salivating over Odyssey, whereas there are people out there who wouldn't spend a dollar on Mario but love DOOM. Totally depends on you, man.

I think Odyssey will be a much better game, but that's just me. I've always loved Mario and don't like first person shooters very much, so take it with a grain of salt.

I would take mario. Im sure it will be great. Doom is a nice oldschool shooter but i found it to be too repetitive. And it feels like the game only has one track which makes it even worse.

When the guys who ported Doom said things like ‘Porting this game to Switch was the hardest thing they’ve ever done’ and ‘I wish people weren’t so obsessed with technical fidelity and would just enjoy having fun’ ....
As much as I like the idea of AAA games on Switch, I get the feeling that they might be a little ropey!
So on that note, Odyssey

Mario, without question. However, this is coming from a guy who plans on buying Doom next month, mainly as a way of showing support to third party developers who are putting forth a real effort.

I have not played doom 2016 before no but I do see the switch with niches basicly from n64 like line ups , basicly I look at doom 64 as doom 3 and though it's not no mercy , 2k18 is wwe on a Nintendo console and with Mario 64s Grandson comin' to town , my wallet is serioulsly screwed, and that " possibility" of battlefront 2 , someone help me before smash bros gets here@Inertiacreep

@Church_Morne Get both, if I'm honest. If you have your eyes on Doom and are pretty sure you'll like it, it's an easy recommendation. Good chance you'll love it, even. Of course Mario Odyssey will be great, no doubt; however, Doom may be more novel and exciting if you've owned primarily Nintendo platforms in the past.

My recommendation is get Doom first alongside some combination of BotW, Splatoon 2, MK8D, and ARMS. Depending, of course on your preferences. Personally I rank them Splatoon 2>BotW>ARMS>MK8D, but that also depends on your familiarity with MK8, I suppose. I adore ARMS for the local multiplayer, where MK8 I'm too good to play local without severe handicaps :^(

Anyway, I suggest Doom + another from that list now and then give yourself Mario as a Christmas present. For me, there is something magical about playing Mario on Christmas morning... (Getting NES and SNES for Xmas are my favorite memories and I'll never forget playing Mario64 at my cousins' on Christmas, either.)

That said, you can't go wrong with Splatoon 2 and BotW. Those two games can easily get you over 500 hours of playtime, but Splatoon 2 vs. Doom depends on your affinity for online multiplayer.

Hope you have fun eitherway!

Have you gotten any other current gen console or a gaming pc? Get Doom for one of them, not Switch (unless you come to appreciate the Switch‘s mobility factor, like I have). It‘ll be much cheaper by now whereas Odyssey, like many first party titles, won‘t be seeing a price drop in quite a long while.

Both are great games and are so much different to each other that it is up to your own taste but I say Mario. After all Mario is one of the most important Nintendo games and this is a Nintendo console so... You can always get Doom after some time it's not that you must discard it if you don't buy it immediately

Why the heck are people recommending getting Doom on another system?

Switch is the best platform to get any multi-plats. Not to mention how delicate the third party situation might be for Switch.

Buy Mario, then get Doom when you can.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

If you like classic DOOM, then yes. DOOM 2016 is a very good take on the original games and isn't plagued with a lot of the problems modern shooters suffer from (i.e forced walking sections, QTE, etc.). Some criticism for DOOM is the levels do get a bit 'samey' and searching for the collectibles (upgrade items) can become monotonous. If you play on one of the higher difficulties, you'll desperately need these upgrades.

That said, I'd still go with Mario. Why? Because it's freakin' MARIO! You can always pick up DOOM at later date (and probably a cheaper price).

To be fair the X1/PS4/PC versions of the game are superior graphically and performance wise. The Switch has the portability factor, but that's only beneficial if you are going to take advantage of it.

Tough question!! Personally I can't wait to play Mario BUT i'm going to buy Doom when it comes out and ask my wife to buy me Mario for Christmas! I think i'll end up putting more hours into Mario than Doom, but I'm thinking I can spend most of January playing it and Doom plus Golf Story and finihing Mario + Rabbids can keep me going until then.

If I was to tell you to buy one game though it would be Zelda, it is incredible and Mario is going to have to be the greatest Mario game ever to beat it and I'm not really a Zelda fan. I've put around 250 hours into it already and there is more DLC to come.

better graphics, better performance, cheaper pricer, larger install base for multi, etc,... switch only has 1 upper hand and thats handheld.
