the best dpad design, well implemented (in the secondary position, alas)
excellently formed and placed digital triggers if you are into that. I am.
great build, pro con like.
grips fit your hand like two bananas
N64 button layout still superb for the games it was made for (and NES and Gameboy too)
weight, texture, et al are "just right" in a Nintendo kind of way, not in an "elite" kind of way.
CONS
no "6 button mode" like I was hoping for so game compatibility is limited
no right stick also limits compatibility but the c buttons act in place of the stick so it's kinda mixed. anyway I wouldn't try to cram another stick in there ✌️
switch "sees" it as an NSO 64 controller, no system level remapping. OTOH that helps with compatibility so IDK. cons are tough.
CONCLUSION
this is a great controller! I also had a great time playing Huntdown, Gunbrella, Mario kart 8dx, and other faves that mostly need a stick/dpad and A+B primarily.
to be clear, for the games that work, this is my new favorite controller. it's a precision tool for NES-DC* era gaming, with major caveats that could be mostly fixed with a "6 button mode" that simply placed YXL/BAR across the face buttons.
(EDIT - *I guess NES-64 since "DC had analogue triggers." still, I did 90% of my heavy usage c. 99-00 on some arcade stick with green buttons so go figure.)
I can't wait to try it with my N64 with a Bluetooth adapter (!) and with emulation, where I can really get experimental with it. I'm in love, y'all. ...And I don't like anythingTM ✌️
