Okay, so we know Switch 2 will have mouse support, but do you think it is possible for Nintendo to add support for keyboards too? Imagine using the joycon mouse on your right hand, and a wasd pad on the left hand to play games like splatoon. Even if they don't, I can see companies like NYXI making a keyboard like their striker keyboard and programming it to connect as a left joycon. Then they could have wasd be programmed to control the stick or d-pad, space for jump, and let your program other buttons on the keyboard. To go further, they might even make a full mouse and have it connect as the right joycon. Anyway, the possiblities seem pretty big for mouse and keyboard now that Nintendo has implemented mouse support. Even if they don't officially add keyboard support, hopefully 3rd party jumps on it!

yeah...i can imagine that being doable but you need games that will take advantage of it. Cause i haven't seen a single console that made full use of it. Such as the Dreamcast and Gamecube. Only Phantasy Star Online took advantage of it on both consoles. Though i will say the Gamecube Keyboard Controller was a nifty idea...but there was a severe lack of support for it.

@DanijoEX-The-Kumiho I think any mouse supporting game could be a candidate for keyboard support. They already have mouse support, having a keyboard that just remaps the left joycon would be able to at least mimic the feel of mouse and keyboard for any mouse supporting games. I suppose my dream is that 3rd party will make it happen even if Nintendo doesn't realize completely themselves.

Why though

Keyboard is a modern typewriter. It was designed to type alpha-numeric characters, not control an interactive video game.

Mouse is amazing. Keyboard is a blight. Why use the ancient typewriter when the modern analog stick and buttons in a left joycon controller exist?

Keyboard was only ever used for gaming due to necessity. But it has no place in gaming when mouse is supported alongside a left hand controller.

@JaxonH I agree that is old and archaic, however it can feel more comfortable for a lot of players, like myself who do a lot of pc gaming. Would it be that bad to have more options for players?

I'm pretty sure an official keyboard was released for the original Switch.

EDIT: Indeed, HORI released one eons ago. It would be nice if the Switch 2 could support Bluetooth keyboards too.

@Konsori
I suppose you're right

If some like it who am I to say they should be deprived. I dont understand it but, ultimately it doesn't hurt me so...

Yeah, I suspect a keyboard peripheral might be this generation's Labo. I think they'll make their own keyboard and have some small minigames to take advantage of it. Maybe also incorporate keyboard support in games that make sense for it.

@Bolt_Strike It would be cool as a gimmick! I’d love to see typing games comeback like Pokémon Typing or Typing of the Dead.

Bolt_Strike

@Konsori Yeah, I think they might lean into educational typing games again but try to put that Nintendo spin on it to make it really fun and quirky even if you're experienced at typing.

@Konsori : I loved Pokémon Typing Adventure and would all over a new one. Hell, I was once tempted to import the Japanese version, which would have come with a black keyboard and alternate spellings for Pokémon.

@Ryu_Niiyama That's crazy, I had no idea that switch had a few games with mouse and keyboard support. With much higher refresh rates, I bet shooters would be sick with those controls on Switch 2!

Keyboard support makes sense for games with text input, particularly when docked and you've not got the touchscreen to hand.

I don't think you're going to get a lot of shooters supporting WASD controls though, and a cheap Bluetooth keyboard is not going to have the feel or low-latency of a wired PC one with Cherry MX switches either.

And it’s not just games that could benefit from it, maybe the OS too.

@MrCarlos46 They didn't show it, but having mouse and keyboard support would be awesome for bringing back the internet app. We haven't seen it since the Wii U, and it'd be nice to have browser functionality again, especially since not evey streaming service has made an app on switch. Like Netflix, or HiDive, which hasn't even made it to PS5 yet.

Konsori

@MrCarlos46 Yeah, they did, but I'd hope they could make the security strong enough that it couldn't change system files this time around.
