Topic: Third-party Switch 1 games which should get a Switch 2 upgrade

Nintendo Switch 2 is almost here, check out our guide: Nintendo Switch 2 Guide: Ultimate Resource.

I'll start with a couple of obvious ones:

No Man's Sky
I'm pretty sure this will actually get a free upgrade, since Hello Games has been constantly improving the Switch 1 version after launch, even going as far as adding a custom FSR upscaling into it. The Switch 1 version is also lacking a couple of features the other versions have (settlements and online multiplayer), and the Switch 2 should have enough power to handle those.

Persona 5 Royal
This doesn't seem to be a too demanding game, so it was a bit weird that the Switch 1 version didn't even run on native resolution, instead it was something like 720p docked and 540p handheld (except for the UI elements). The Switch 2 should have absolutely no problems running it on 1080p, maybe even 4K. I guess the FPS could be upgraded from 30 to 60 as well, but that's not as important since it's a turn-based JRPG.

Monster Hunter Rise
While this already looked great and ran well enough on the Switch 1, upgrading the FPS from 30 to 60 would probably be a good thing because of its fast-paced gameplay.

The only third-party game I'd like to have a Switch 2 upgrade that immediately comes to my mind is Sonic Frontiers.

Maybe LEGO City Undercover. The Switch version is more unstable than the Wii U original, if you can believe it. Not sure about the other versions, though.

Rusty's Real Deal Baseball is now a hidden gem of the Nintendo 3DS.

Amen to that. I'd LOVE a really good, portable version of that game (that isn't Steam Deck).

Aside from that, I'm not sure. Monster Hunter Rise would be nice.

Well, that didn't take long... šŸ˜…

As expected, Hello Games is the first third-party publisher to provide a free Switch 2 upgrade for a Switch 1 game, adding cross-platform online multiplayer, much better graphics, etc. on launch day.

These are games I could go back and revisit with performance updates:

  • Immortals: Fenyx Rising (although I don’t have my hopes up for that ever happening)
  • Skyrim
  • Worms Armageddon (mouse support)
  • outer worlds

It would be nice having Nier:Automata and Persona 5 Royal run at higher resolutions and frame rates (1440p60fps seems reasonable for both)

+1 to Nier & Persona 5
I'd like to see Witcher 3, Outer Wilds, and the Doom games updated. I'm sure there are many more games...but these are top of my list.

@Servbot_EJ A 120fps mode for SMT V: Vengeance would be awesome... and possibly doable, considering the Switch 2 is broadly more capable than the Steam Deck, and that device runs it at 90fps in many areas.

Ugh. Men.

Posting here won't make Devs update if you want to send them emails asking them to update to Switch 2.

Ultra128

@sethfranum yeah, I sent it to square Enix for nier and triangle strategy, maybe the more we are the better

Yeah Persona 5 Royal definitely needs an resolution update for the Switch 2.

I tested it out on my Switch 2 yesterday and it looks absolutely awful (especially docked)! It doesn't even do any DLSS upscaling either.

I’m hoping several of the titles and ā€œmiracle portsā€ that made heavy compromises with resolution will be updated to increase it on switch 2.

Among these are somewhat random stuff like the Lego games, Farming Simulator and even Piczle Lines 2.

Ever heard of a thing called "discussion"? šŸ˜‰
