@GrailUK
I completely agree.

Sticking to just games that are actually on the cart is gonna help my backlog and spending for this system sooooo much. It’s going to let me slow down.

I need to get back to taking my time with games. I have that philosophy with my SNES collection: I don’t buy a new game until I’ve wrung absolutely everything out of the last ones I bought.

People may laugh at this, but I’m fine admitting that sometimes I need a little outside help to realize goals like this.

It's a code-in-the-box release. Not surprising considering the file size of 73GB.
It's extra sleazy how EA uses French rather than English to describe no cartridge is included.

One reason I will never get this til it gets discounted if even. They could've just used a "Key-Card" if they are going to put it into a fake case.

@rallydefault I mean, all influencers do is herd people into liking the same stuff. They go from one game to another, quick to put stuff down. I used to buy a game and play it to death even if it wasn't perfect. I can use something like San Fransisco Rush on the N64 as an example. Handled like arse, but the jumps were so much fun. It's how you develop those odd games you like and no one else does. Because you HAD to play them. So yeah, I'll be buying a lot less games. But man, I will appreciate the ones I do much much more. Let the mainstream mainstream. I'll play what I want

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

Out of interest, how many Switch games have people got that aren't complete on the cartridge?

I've picked up grand total of two, for my sins, and both had been heavily discounted to the point where they were a lot cheaper than buying the download, even when it went on sale at a 50% discount.

I've got a couple more games where the version on the card is playable but a very poor experience, to the point where I wouldn't bother if I could no longer access the patches. Again, both were picked up at a considerable discount.

I can see my attitude towards key cards being similar. They're not something that I'd ever buy by choice, but if they're a means of getting a big discount, I'd consider them occasionally.

@Matt_Barber
I have over 100 Switch games, and the only ones (from memory) I have that aren’t fully on the cart are DOOM and the Spyro Trilogy. I think technically Hogwarts Legacy, as well, but I think it’s only the language pack or something that needs to download. It doesn’t let me play without it, though, so yea.

LRG verbally committing to having their numbered releases being on cartridge is nice. Now I'm curious to see what their first release will be. Will they regurgitate their Switch 1 numbered series, which is near 300 games now? Or will they consider those Switch 1 releases...cemented?

Because LRG typically don't reprint numbered releases. But since this is a new platform, perhaps that doesn't apply to Switch 2, yet. How much longer will their Switch 1 releases continue? Probably until Nintendo cease production of the Switch 1 cartridge. A couple or few years?

Regardless, it doesn't give me hope for games like say...Doom: The Dark Ages. The boxed copies on Playstation and Xbox are just game-key releases, requiring an internet connection to download the game. Unless the port developers can work some magic and get the file size under 64GB? I don't know, seems like a bunch of hurdles to get over.

They will almost surely do all the Shantae games for Switch 2, just like they did for PS5. Might even be the first games they do.

Promotional material for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds suggest it'll be on cartridge and not a game-key card.

@Magician Is that text at the bottom of the box art not the key card disclaimer?

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Switch Online

No, it's the disclaimer for a Switch 2 Edition, like you see on BotW or TotK.

The background on the game-key disclaimer is typically white, not grey.

@Dogorilla
Game-Key releases use an opaque white footer, whilst Switch 2 Editions use a translucent footer, both feature a QR code for more information.
It does appear to be a Switch 2 Edition going by that much.

Although curiously, LRG's collector's edition for Sonic Crossworlds Racing lacks an option for a Switch 2 release.

@Magician @RupeeClock Ah ok, so does that mean there'll be an upgrade available if you get the Switch 1 version? I hear Sega has not even been doing that for their Switch 2 releases so far.

@RupeeClock CrossWorlds doesn’t have a release date for the Switch 2 version yet, all we know is that it’s releasing sometime after the other versions.

Yeah, in general it seems that if there's a physical Switch 2 Edition, that there should always be a digital Upgrade Pack available.
Annoyingly, it's not straight forward to just search for Upgrade Packs on the eShop or Nintendo's website. Directly searching for that term can bring up the game but not the pack, or unrelated Switch 1 games that might've had similarly named DLCs.

As for SEGA not offering upgrade paths for the older Switch 1 games, still a scummy move, but it looks like they're open to it for future Switch 2 releases?

Ah, so it's not a simultaneous launch?
I guess the Switch 2 launch timing made it difficult for SEGA to get this ready.
