New Switch 2, created dad account, created son account. App, link device, downloaded games, etc. everything fine, but in console home the are 2 accounts: dad and son.
The restrictions I set on the app apply for both users? Why can my son choose to play with my account and no code is asked? How can I restrict so my son can only choose his account?
There's no way to restrict access/password protect your switch user/account to keep your son from selecting your adult account to play games. The only thing you can password protect is opening eshop and making purchases on eshop.
I think the only way to restrict him is for him to have his own console with a child account. Which, I'll agree, isn't cheap, and is severly lacking in options for a family/houshold. Unless someone else here can correct me, but this is how it's been since switch launched in 2017.
Don’t feel stupid at all—this is super common with Switch accounts! The parental controls you set in the app usually only apply to the account you linked them to. That’s why your son can still pick your account and play without restrictions.
To fix this, you’ll want to make sure your dad account is protected with a PIN and that your son’s account is the only one he uses for gaming. You can set the parental controls specifically on his account, and also enable “Require PIN to use other accounts” on the console so he can’t switch to yours. That way, he’s limited to just his account and the restrictions you set.
