I'd usually be a bit miffed at having to get a digital copy over a physical for the sake of affordability but Mario Kart is one of those games that's always good to have on you. Perfect game for quick sessions especially with other people.

Plus, Mario Kart World won't be going away for a long time so there will be plenty of opportunities to pick it up physically at likely a lower price

I am buying the non bundle and purchased MK separately because I like having the physical game cases on my shelf.

Same here, plus I don't think I'll be getting much replay value out of MKW after I've seen it all, so am aiming to sell it on.

Normally I'd definitely want the physical copy. However with a 50€ difference they really try pushing people to the bundle.

I gave in and bought the bundle for two more reasons:

  • normally I like having the option to sell the game if I don't like it / need it anymore. That's not happening with Mario Kart.
  • normally I don't mind swapping cartridges, but this is one game that could be pleasant to always have on your system.

So, in the end...

With the Switch 2 generation I think physical collectors are going to be disappointed. There is the Game Cartridge that doesn't hold the game and I even heard reports physical is going to short on stock in the US.

Clearly Nintendo wants people to move to digital. In the UK for the first time eShop prices are cheaper than physical releases. I am told this has been the case in Japan for many years.

So yes it's cheaper to go with the digital this time around.

Benefits of digital:

Swap games without needing to swap out the cartridges. Now there is Virtual Game Card which will let you share your game collection between Nintendo Switches without hassle. Also, while digital cannot be sold this is sometimes a good thing I tend to buy and sell too much and end up regretting it later. With digital my collection going back to 2017 is intact.

Also with GameChat you can see what your friend is playing, possibly even play with them without owning the game and if you choose to get it, it's one press to the eShop and you can download and play right away.

The downside is your Billy Bookcase might be a little bare without a line of games on it. But like in the UK the My Nintendo Store is doing all sorts of merch that typically would be in a Nintendo collectors edition and so you can still buy those things to display or use while buying a digital copy.

In Canada Mario Kart World is $109.99, but only $70 with the bundle. So even though I greatly prefer physical games, I’m still getting the bundle for affordability

I have bought physical release, I always avoid digital where possible because I sometimes like to sell games on and use the money to buy another, and to be honest these Switch 2 physical games will hold their value for a quite a long time.

If Nintendo had a digital exchange/sale platform where you could sell and swap digital games (maybe with Nintendo taking a small commission) then that would be amazing and then I'd probably go digital. I don't want to invest £70-£80 per game and not be able to sell them on when I'm done with them.

I've just pre ordered the bundle as I'm pretty much fully digital now, unless I see something physical for a good price.

I think most people might've chosen the bundle but without Nintendo sales numbers no one really knows this.

Well, I can provide this anecdote:

I pre-ordered in person at my local GameStop later in the day. They still had just the Switch 2 consoles, but they didn’t have any bundles left.

I didn’t mind because I’m staying physical as long as possible, but unless my area is a fluke, I would wager most people are going for the digital bundle and will likely continue to go digital.

It’s all about money. We all want to save it, consumers and publishers, and so here we are lol

I pre-ordered physical MKW with the switch 2.

In the 48hrs leading up the preorder, I realized, when I get the console, I want to be able to just throw the game in and go. Plus, full games on a game card seems more rare these days. And this will help save space on the console while supply is uncertain for 512GB and 1TB Express microSD cards.

I prefer to buy physical copies of games over digital the vast majority of the time but in this case it's a $30 saving, I was going to buy Mario Kart World anyway and I never trade those games in so it just makes sense to get the bundle.

The only way I see myself owning and playing this game is if the bundle is the first option available to me when I eventually get a chance to buy a Switch 2 (as I would rather just get it at that moment than keep searching for the basic package). Otherwise, I don't think I have enough interest in Mario Kart to even get it during a digital sale.

@BrazillianCara I wouldn't be surprised if the Mario Kart World bundle is the default here in Brazil. All V2 Switch models are the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundle here, and the Oled model is going the same way.
Pre-orders started yesterday and only the Mario Kart World bundle is available.

@Rodolfo6493 That's a good possibility, though I'm not sure if that will be the case in Paraguay (where I'm planning to buy it with the help of friends).

I’m exiting physical at this point. My last physical game will be the new rune factory (and I may trade it in to put towards the digital version) and maybe if sony announces a nice CE for ghost of yotei. Got the mario kart bundle paid for and will get SF6 digital. Honestly since I am still playing Assassin’s creed I am set till the holidays. I will focus on switch digital games until somebody releases a 2TB express card for the Switch2. Then I will go ham on the purchases. I am moving again and pretty much cussing daily at all these game boxes in here that I gotta put in boxes is driving me nuts.

I would've love to get a MKW Physical but considering bundle saves well I will go for the gamble. And maybe down the line when MKW Physical is cheaper then I might get it for collectors purpose.

Bundle if I can, otherwise a physical copy.

I'm buying the physical version instead of the bundle. Unlike you, I buy lots of digital games. Mario Kart World, being a multiplayer and party game favourite, I will play it all the time, for years and never "beat it and be done with it". If I had it digitally, I would never want to uninstall it. By Switch 1 terms it is a HUGE file size, and seeing that many GB taking up room on my SD Express card, for the next 8 years straight, when I could have had it physically, would piss me off.

I decided to go for the digital bundle, just because I would always have a big Nintendo game on my machine then, with the intention of buying a real cart version a lot later down the line when I could get a deal on a second hand copy.
