Topic: Illumination Mario Movie

I’m skeptical about how this movie will turn out. It would be awesome if a video game movie was actually good for once and stayed as true as possible to the source material but I think the track record for that is evident enough. I think this movie is going to pander way too heavily to the layman whose knowledge of Mario starts with the fact that his clothes are red and ends with the fact that he jumps. Maybe I’m being overly pessimistic though. I haven’t truly enjoyed a new movie in a very long time and I’ve kind of quit watching new movies at this point honestly.

Joking aside, I hope this works, for the sake of more Nintendo movies and shows. I want to believe Nintendo has been watching Illumination like a hawk this whole time. I want to believe that, as long as I can tolerate the characters not sounding the same, they'll still be faithful. I'm not expecting greatness here. I'll be thrilled even if it's just okay! Regardless, I'm just glad that they aren't dropping this trailer on a random day after it was a no show in the last Direct.

I can't wait for the storm that is to follow. Even if this looks like it's going to be the best movie ever created, people are still going to complain about it. I'm so excited about it because I'm going into it thinking that it's going to be laughably bad. I mean, this is the studio that gave us the Minions, Secret Life of Pets, and Sing, the banes of my existence. Would love to be proven wrong, though!

I can't wait to see every fibre of Mario moustache on the big screen.

Well, we're getting a mini-Direct showing it off at the same time as Comic-Con from Nintendo themselves.

@Fizza Yeah I'm actually pretty impressed at the quality of this screenshot. The toads maybe look... a little strange against everything else surrounding them. But that might just be this screenshot. I'm sure in motion it'll look a lot better.

Oh no I just had a thought for the direct. What if they do an interview with the cast and it's cringy.

@Kermit1 From what I can tell the shortest Direct ever was the infamous July 2020 Partner Showcase at 8:14 which does give the impression there's more to the Direct than just the trailer.
