Topic: Unavailable DLC

Hey guys, how are you? I am new here.

Can i ask for your advice?

It´s about DLC for game Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition.
https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Nintendo-Switch/DRAGON-QUEST...
The DLC can not be downloaded from the UK e-shop anymore. I did not see it available even in e-shops in Europe.
I found it in US version of the e-shop:
https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/dragon-quest-xi-s-echoe...

Is it possible the DLC is only available for some region or only for some time?
When there is not possible to get it from other e-shop than from US, do I need US version of the game to make them work together?
If I will use US e-shop because of this, do I need to use it in future for all of the games, or can I download from other countries e-shop under the same account? But DLC and game regions must match, right?

I mean when you have one account, can you use it for e-shops from different regions, or you need to make more accounts and each one of them will be for one specific country?

@Tanner_Sunday Not sure which eshop region you use, but if you edit your thread title to something more descriptive like, "Where's Dragon Quest XI DLC in UK, or EU eshop region?" Or "can't find DQ XI DLC in UK/EU eshop". You can get better attention, and a quicker answer

Since it says the DLC is free, you can download it from another region's eshop. Eshop region is controlled by the region you select in your Nintendo account on Nintendo's webisite - Nowhere else. Not sure you have experience with eshop regions, so I thought I'd mention it. But, warning, if you keep unspent money on your eshop account, and you change regions, you will lose that money.

Hi WoomyNNYes and thank you for your answer.

The thing is I have no experience with this. I have Wii, but never been online with the console.
Now I think about if I should buy Switch, but like to know some things about how it works before.

If you can answer me this questions, I would be very thankful.

1.) The game and the DLC must be from the same region to match together or it does not matter?
2.) If I don´t want to change regions, can I have more accounts, each one only for specific region?
3.) The Nintendo account is enough for using the services like buying things, download etc. or do I need other type of accounts? I read something about Network ID.
4.) Can I use account for buying things from PC or I need to be online from the Switch console?

@Tanner_Sunday Oh, you don't have a Switch, I see

1.) Regarding regions. Unlike previous Nintendo consoles, the Switch is region free. So, your worries about region exclusive games/content is not an issue. (If you want to know specifically about DQ XI dlc, you can ask in the DQ XI thread https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/nintendo-switch/dragon_qu...
How to buy games from any region:
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/06/guide_how_to_buy_ni...

Nintendo's support site is a good resource, too. If you haven't tried it, you can search their support to find official directions for most everything.
how to purchase or download DLC on switch ehsop

how to change eshop region
https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a...

2.)Yes, you can make a second Nintendo account for another country to access that region's eshop. I think most people just make a second account (but you can change your own account any time you want https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a... )

3.)In the case of the Switch, you only need to make one Nintendo account on Nintendo's website. (Nintendo used to have a "network ID" system, but due to hacking this spring, it was killed off. If you see anything about network ID on the interenet, I think it's obsolute info).

4.) People buy digital games on the Switch through eshop on the Switch (from eshop icon on the Switch home screen).

EDIT: Here's a collection of links to Nintendo directions for most questions people ask when setting up a new Switch console.

Thank you for your answer.

So US game with UK DLC will work?

When I like to buy something or get something what is free from e-shop, can I do it from PC before I have console?

Tanner_Sunday

WoomyNNYes

@Tanner_Sunday EDIT: The nintendo website might not let you buy something if you've never set up a the console. That's only a guess though. I could be wrong. .........If there is something free on eshop, the only way to get it is through your switch eshop, by hitting Download. When there is no cost, there is no "Purchase" button. In it's place, there will be a "Download" button, and you can only download via switch eshop.

Sure, you can buy a game from US eshop, and buy the DLC from UK, you won't have a problem. Since the Switch's launch, I've never heard of any paid DLC packs being exclusive or different in any region. If it did occur, you could buy through that region's eshop. It also doesn't matter where you buy the game card (cartridge). If you buy physical, it will be playable regardless of where you bought it. (The only exclusive dlc things I've seen have been VERY tiny, and extremely rare, like a japanese company had a promotional campaign & offered redeem codes for a special Splatoon 2 outfit (which was ugly), and you could only get the redeem code from buying a product? But, if you can get the redeem code, you can plug it into your eshop and get the exclusive outfit/skin/dlc.)

Out of convenience, everybody makes their purchases on the switch via eshop. But if you want to make a purchase from your PC, there is an internet version of eshop on Nintendo's site. So yes, you can make purchases there too.

Thank you. This goes for amiibo too?

Tanner_Sunday

WoomyNNYes

@Tanner_Sunday Amiibo are region free. Are you seeing a pattern, yet, with the "region free"? haha The biggest problem with amiibo, some are limited, or difficult/impossible to find. In which case, you can get amiibo cards, if you're after the content amiibo can provide. The cards work exactly the same as regular amiibo. (I didn't want the figures, so I go the cards. Also, finding all the splatoon amiibo was a ridiculous challenge.) I got the Splatoon card set from an ebay seller. You can find nice amiibo cards with good nintendo art on them, like the ones in the pasted link. They are plastic cards with NFC chips in them. (You're likely aware amiibo figures use a NFC chip in the base)

I did not know the figures can be replaced with cards.

Thank you for your help and all the info you wrote me.

If I can ask you, would you recommend me to buy physical or digital version of the game and maybe what is for you the good source when you think about the price of the game?

Tanner_Sunday

WoomyNNYes

@Tanner_Sunday In the US, here, I haven't seen any store have better prices. Eshop has sales often, especially for holidays & E3.

Regarding physical vs digital games: I'm not sure what to recommend. I have a mix of physical & digital games.

For larger games, many game cards do not contain the whole game, and require large downloads. This is because Switch game cards are so costly to produce. For example, the Bioshock collection game card only has a demo of each game. You have to download the full games. However, Nintendo brand games have full games on their game cards.

I filled my 128 GB micro sd memory card, then upgraded to a 400 GB card.
