Recently, I've been experiencing some issues while playing the legend of Zelda breath of the wild on my Nintendo switch.
The issue is that shadows reflected by trees and bushes are glitched and are always moving while i move my camera or walk, this problem is annoying me and I've tried everything to fix it but nothing has worked. Also I can't send my hardware to Nintendo bc in my country there is not Nintendo support service and i don't know what to do. I think my switch and my game are not working properly and so far i haven't seen anyone with the same issue i have.
Does anyone know how to fix that problem or has experienced something similar to this?
Here's a YouTube link to a video i recorded that shows exactly what my problem is: https://youtu.be/vY-6jpVdDSQ
PD: sorry for my bad English jeje
@Jp013 I'm assuming you're talking about the shimmering jagged shaddow pixels in the tall grass?
What region is that that spot in the game? I want to compare that same spot. Is that the woods west of Hateno Village?
I believe your Switch is working normal. Your video looks normal. I could see how that can be distracting if you noticed it. The issue appears to be most visible when the sun is high in the sky around Noon. The issue can look worse if your TV's sharpness setting is set high. Lowering the sharpness might decrease the effect a tiny bit - wont eliminate it.
Anyway, what region is that?
*hopefully my english description translates ok for you.
@WoomyNNYes
The spot is Bosque de los espÃritus (soul forest?) It is the first forest that you see when you start a new game, but this glicth occurs to me in every forest of the game.
Also it's not because of my tv, when i play in handled mode i have the same issue.
The issue is because of my switch but apparently that shadow glicth just occurs when i play zelda, because when I play other games like Mario Odyssey or Mario 3d all stars the game runs fine
And also i think I'm the only one in the entire world who has this issue bc i haven't seen anyone else with this shadow glicth
@Jp013 So far, I believe it looks normal. I'm not saying the game doesn't have flaws. I'll try to find that same spot, and post a clip.
I wouldn't compare that effect with other games like Odyssey or 3D All-Stars, since the games are running on different engines and have different environment construction. You're right to notice those games don't have the same issue, though.
@WoomyNNYes
Here's another video and if u can notice the shadows are kind of moving weird, by camera is very hard to see but in real life it is very noticeable and it annoys me a lot
Also comparing with your video, i can see that my game is just not running fine and there's a big problem with my game shadows because they are stuttering.
I don't really know what else i can do, i have restarted my console, i have changed some configurations but nothing seems to work and i think this has to be to a hardware problem
By the way, is your game digital or physical?
@WoomyNNYes
It is in handled mode, but no matter if I'm playing in handled or docked mode, i always have the same issue when playing and that makes the game look horrible.
It is just so annoying to see those shadows so glicthy.
@Jp013 It looks to me that it is some kind of texture pop-up but for shadows for better performance. Especially in handheld. After all this is a Switch and you can't expect the shadows (one of the most performance heavy thing in all games) to be good at long distances.
Even the PS4 Pro/Xbox One X have some graphics pop-up on certain games (especially on OPEN world games). This is not a problem of your console so don't worry about that!
@Jp013 The rough looking shadows in the Temple of Time there, Nintendo uses lower resolutions for shadows to conserve power & maximize performance. Low resolution shadows are a common method for maintaining game performance. Digital Foundry on youtube often points out low resolution shadows for games that are ported to the Switch... even games made for the Switch use low resolution shadows.
Some people can be more sensitive game performance shortcuts than others. For some it is distracting.
@Zuljaras
No, it is actually a problem of my console bc i haven't seen anyone else with that problem, even my friends who have the game do not have that issue and their game shadows looks normal, i know that the switch is not the most powerful console and that the legend of Zelda is a demanding game for the switch hardware, but I haven't seen anyone else with weird shadow physics like in my game and it's very weird that nobody in the internet has the same problem. I think the game cartridge must have a corrupt file or something because that's not very normal
@WoomyNNYes I am sensitive to my consoles being loud or having coil whine! Or some button not working on my handhelds! I have no issues with framerates as long as the games are playable!
@Jp013 So you are playing from the cartridge only? Did you update the game? Because I know that some updates have performance fixes. Also some cartridges are different version on them. Latest cartridges have 1.5 on them while mine has 1.0 (launch cartridge)!
@Zuljaras
I have the game updated to the latest version.
Trust me i have tried literally everything to solve this, i even rebooted my console and it doesn't fix this
I guess that maybe this is just a general issue and I'm just very sensitive to the game performance especially the shadows, it is really impressive that for all of you the shadow stuttering was normal.
I will have to change my eyes xd
Thank you all for the help.
