Topic: Right JoyCon disconnect with only 1 game

Hello all,

Since last week, I'm a proud owner of a Ninty Swith (Mario Kart bundle). Bought couple of games with it as well and I enjoy playing on the console a lot!
Now I have Mario Kart, Octopath Traveler, Fire Emblem Warriors, Shantae Half Genie Hero and (F2P) Warframe to play.

However, there is one small issue I'm experiencing. The below is only during TV play. Handheld mode, I have no issues whatsoever:
While playing Mario Kart, the right Joycon will disconnect from time to time. Sometimes even two or three times during a single race.
I have updated the controllers, but this doesn't seem to help.

Weird part; I only have this problem playing Mario Kart. Other games (like Octopath, Fire Emblem) I can play for hours without any problems/disconnects.

Does anyone recognize this issue and know how to fix this?
Again, this is only with Mario Kart, via TV play.

The R Joy-Con disconnecting is very common. Try contacting Nintendo.

Noted. Though, it's only with one specific game. That's the odd part.
If it was with all types of games, I would have contacted Nintendo without thinking. But since it's only playing Mario Kart and not with other games, I had my doubts on what it might be. So thought to share it in here as well.

Playing Octopath Traveler for couple hours straight, I have not a single disconnect. Same with Fire Emblem.
But starting Mario Kart, last night with the very first race it disconnected within minutes.

I just think that as your problem is very specific, contacting Nintendo would give you the answer. Something could be wrong with your MK8 game, for example. Have you played MK8 without the Joy-Cons?

As I have a brand new Switch, and no other controllers, I was not able to test playing without the Joycons.
Though, I just contacted the Dutch Nintendo Service, and they will send me a "test" Joycon to see if the problem is with the Joycon, Console, or anything else.

And... never had such good service, by the way. I explained the issue, he also thought it's very weird, and directly offered me to send another Joycon to test things at home. I was speachless...

Update on the JoyCon issue.
Yesterday evening I received the "Test" Joycon from Nintendo Netherlands.
Started playing Mario Kart instantly to see if the problems were solved. Played 2 complete cups (8 races) without any issue at point.

So, thought to switch to my own Joycon again to see what'll happen.
Funny enough, I had no actual disconnects anymore. However (!), I did experience major input lag with the drift buttons. Sometimes the button was not reacting when I pressed it, but the game registered the input about 4 seconds later. This happened A LOT. Also when I released the drift button, the system did not recognize it and my kart kept drifting for 2 or 3 seconds after I release the button.

Switched back to the "Test" Joycon, and played for another 2 hours without problems.
So there you have it. My own Joycon has issues, that is for sure. Emailed Ninty again to see what the procedure is from this point on.

But I am very happy with the service they offered without hessitation, or making sure I have a brand new console with warenty and all.

Hi, I have exactly same problem with my right joycon and mk8. Both disconnecting and button lag. How it ended with Nintendo? Did they send you new joycon or what was the procedure like? I live in Czech Republic and we dont have Nintendo right here.
