Hi,

I don't seem to be able to buy 3DS or Wii U games from the www.nintendo.co.uk web site from my laptop or phone, which is odd. If I search for the game and click on it, I see a warning about March 2023 but I'm not able to see any purchase options. I can purchase games using my balance from my console, but not via the web site. I'm sure I used to be able to add the difference with my credit card too and yes, I have my accounts linked.

I also don't seem to be able to redeem an eShop card using my phone but the web site via my laptop does allow me to do this. Very odd.

Does anyone else have the same issue?

Craig.

Sadly, you can’t add funds to the 3ds/ Wii U eshop anymore. You can just use your remaining funds to buy games until March. Although, if you have that account linked on your switch, you might be able to add the funds on your switch and then use them on your 3ds/ Wii U.

Hope this helps.

I don't have a Switch but I've linked my accounts and have been able to (and still can) add eShop card funds or £10+ using a credit card. The issue is that the web site used to let me purchase the games but now I can only buy them from the console. It's not a big deal but something does look to have changed.

Also, as I said, I used to still be able to pay the difference on a credit card on the web site, in case I was a few pence over, but now I'm not able to do that because I can't pay for the game on the website.

@cra1g0s Since summer, I believe buying with eshop cards is the only way to add funds to purchase games for 3ds eshop, and possibly Wii U.

I recall nintendolife news articles this summer saying that ability to make digital purchases with your own money/credit card was ending for eshop on 3ds, or Wii U, or both, and from now on using nintendo's eshop voucher cards was the only way to make a purchase. Forgive me if I've got some of the details off. It's been a while since that was in the news.

@WoomyNNYes Yes, I was aware of that too but I was still able to buy the games from the web site using my balance (forget about adding funds) but now you're not able to do that anymore.

@cra1g0s I could still purchase 3DS games using the website as of last week and I don't recall hearing of any changes since then.

@TeaCatherine Maybe login and see if you can, but I was just trying for 3DS and Wii U. I don’t have a Switch but the price of Switch games is visible but it’s not for 3DS and Wii U games.

@cra1g0s Which country are you in? That might help, I'm in the UK.

@TeaCatherine I’m in the UK too, no option to buy 3DS games via the web site like there was previously

@cra1g0s Hmm. yeah, you're definitely right. I just tried it myself; I suppose that means you'll have to add the closest amount in funds.

Yep, either by an eShop card or add £10 and upwards via a credit card or PayPal. I guess any balance left over will just remain until I finally buy a Switch. I’ve got a lot of gold coins that I’m unable to spend on Wii U or 3DS games too.

@cra1g0s Huh, really? That's weird. Also, thanks for the heads up.

@TeaCatherine That’s okay, I’ve been on a mission to buy all the VC, DsiWare and any decent console exclusives for the 3DS and Wii U. I’m trying to decide if I need Pokémon Crystal but I’m struggling to understand the appeal!!
