Topic: Nintendo account already being used on this console

Hi there,

Family membership is paid through my account. My son (not a minor) has just created an account. I have invited him to the family group and he has accepted via the email link. He shows as a member of the family group on my Nintendo account information. When he is logged into his account, it shows him as a member of the family group. His online options says he already has online access as a member of a family group.

Here is where the problem starts. We can switch users to him on the Switch but when he tries to go online on Mario Kart Deluxe, he is prompted to link his account. Email and password is entered but then a message comes up to say 'This Nintendo account is already being used on this console. Please link a different Nintendo account' Error code is 2124-0150. I've looked this up but I'm unable to get any clear way forward from it.

If I'm logged in as the user on the console then online play works fine. If going in as 2 player and we try to select his account as the second player, again we are prompted to link his account and ultimately we get the same error message.

Can anyone shed any light on where we're going wrong please? Many thanks in advance.

The console is telling you that one of the switch users on that console is already linked to that nintendo account/email address. As far as I know, since switch launch, I've never heard of that message being given by mistake. (Forgive me if this doesn't help solve your issue.)

Disregard if you already know this: You can plug switch error codes into nintendo support's search bar to see what they mean. The page link below is for your error code.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I did have a look at the details of that error message before, and I came to the same conclusion as you. All the users in the family group have their own email addresses and Nintendo accounts. I think the message is highlighting that I am the user linked to that console already which I'm fine with. I just don't understand why the console is prompting to link my son when trying to go online and we're unable to get past it.

@DuncanKS Possibly unrelated, but I once had a problem signing into accounts.nintendo dot com with my email and password. I called Nintendo support (US region) and the inside rep said I should create a username for it, and after I assigned a username to it, it solved my problem. Perhaps making a new password on your son's nintendo account will solve it?
