Following all the instructions, I go to the family group and add an account for a child under 13. The username box is red and stays that way, no matter what user ID I choose. I've tried a random jumble of letters to see if it was just a case that every user ID i was attempting to choose was taken, but even that doesn't work. No matter what I put in the user ID box, it doesn't let me proceed.
@jafnelson I don't have a lot of confidence that someone else here will know that scenario. Not many people in here answer tech questions. I can almost count them on one hand. You may want to try Nintendo support. They have a phone line & chat messenger.
Forgive me for suggesting Nintendo support. I think that might be the quickest way to resolve your issue. Nintendo support has been good in the past, but I don't know how it is post pandemic.
@jafnelson In case this helps, there are two ways to add a child Nintendo account. One way is without an email address. The other way requires an email address. And I think it must be an email address that hasn't been used for another Nintendo account. I'm guessing maybe you got stuck during the method that requires it's own email address?
Hopefully this helps you and anyone one else who runs into this. The Child's account sign-in ID (used to sign in to account).... the catch or what's causing everyone issues is they are not very clear in the app or website. From their support site hidden deep is this statement: The sign-in ID must be at least 6 characters long. It cannot start with a number and cannot contain capital letters, spaces, or punctuation other than dashes or underscores..
SO IN SHORT: NO CAPITAL LETTERS, Spaces or punctuation (Symbols such at $, #, ? or !). - and _ are okay.
