Topic: HELP! The person who set up my child's account died

I am new here and not sure this is the right place to ask this question. I purchased a Nintendo Switch for my child several years ago. His grandfather set up the account but linked it to my credit card. The grandfather died about a year and a half ago. While I have his email, I have no way to get his password. My child wants to share his fortnight account with his new Play Station. I have spoken with six different Nintendo customer "service" reps. The first three thought there was a way to work this situation out, but as the problem moved up the chain of reps, the last three said there is no way to switch the account without the deceased grandfather's password. Does anyone have any advice? This is very frustrating. Thank you.

@GGE
Ehm... are you sure about that?
If you go to Nintendo's website and try to log in, choose forgot password and enter the email address associated with it. They send you a code to that email address, enter the code and you can choose a new password.
That's how it's always worked.

@GGE What @lanztephan said, if you have access to a device that had his email signed in you should just be able to recover by saying you forgot the password, that or I’m just stupid lol.

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

(My friend code is SW-7322-1645-6323, please ask me before you use it)

Sorry for not being active much recently, but I’m very much alive!

Thanks, everyone. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any of the devices that might have had backups for the accounts. They were all cleaned and donated or destroyed over a year ago. I checked with his email provider and the account is inactive and they can't give access to anyone but the deceased,

If you have a Nintendo account yourself and If your kids account is linked in the family group thing Nintendo has for various things like the NSO family pack, you could change the email and password through that page if I recall correctly.

If you get access to the email used, it’s easier to just click “Forgot my passcode” and type the email, then go to the inbox and click the link though

You could also call CS again, explain the situation of the lost password and closed email address, and provide proof that you aren’t stealing an account by telling them the console serial number and whatever else they ask beyond that (eg: credit card number, since you linked yours to the console that can be used to help your case)

Thanks. We do not have a Nintendo family account but maybe I will try to create one. Hadn't thought of that.
Unfortunately, we have no way to access the email used.
I have spoken with CS 6 times and explained the situation. Gave them console number, my credit card. I offered to send them the old VISA bill showing that I purchased the switch and/or a copy of the obituary, but they declined.
