My daughter has has a Nintendo switch for about a year. Yesterday she asked if she could play a game online and it needed the parental control pin. Obviously I’m a stupid mum that can’t remember the PIN number (tried all my usual numbers and nothing has worked). Apparently I should be able to change the PIN through my account on the app but when I’ve logged in to my account via the parental controls app on my phone and it says that my account is not linked to the console. when I follow the instructions to link it, I need the PIN number! I also can’t get a master key as the account and console aren’t linked and again I need the PIN. Completely going around in circles! The customer service web site is useless and phone number doesn’t seem to work. Please can someone help me 😀
@Kshaw If you haven't linked things, then they can't communicate & function. The console and the parental control app need to point to a nintendo account on nintendo's website. If you can't confirm those links, that may identify a starting point for troubleshooting. You'll need to know the email address and password of your nintendo account (on nintendo's website) when you link the console (switch user profile), and when you link the app.
Unfortunately, Nintendo UK shut down their support phone line when the pandemic hit.
Maybe you can disable/turn off parental controls to get around the pin. Which may require setting up again to re-establish parental controls, which may let you make a new pin. But I'm just a guy in the US, making my best guess, not a Nintendo rep. I don't know if I'm missing any key points. A nintendo rep has the advantage of being able to look up your account and see things I can't.
