Just thought I'd make a thread for the discussion of the Ys series of video games. For those who are not familiar with the series and too lazy to click the link I just provided, they're a series of Fast-paced action RPGs, created by Falcom (who also made the Dragon Slayer series, which, yes, includes The Legend of Heroes and Xanadu), which almost always star a silent, red-haired man named Link Adol Christin. It's been around almost as long as Final Fantasy, and is apparently one of the largest series of JRPGs out there.

Whith that out of the way, what Ys games have you played, and which one's your favorite?

Personally, I own most of the current canon - Ys Books I & II (TGCD/VC), Ys: The Oath in Felghana (PSP), Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim (PS2), Ys Seven (PSP), and Ys Origins (PC), and I have Ys: Memories of Celceta (PSVita) on pre-order. However, I've only played Ys 1, Ys 3 (GEN), and Ys Seven.

Ys Seven is easily my favorite, being one of my top 10 RPGs of all time, and one of only 3 action RPGs on that list. It has the best and most refined gameplay thus far, keeping a fast pace while still being complex enough to be engaging both in and outside of boss battles. The story was also impressive considering the stories in other Ys games (from what I've seen) is usually more on-par with Zelda...

Btw, the entire series seems to have great music. I'm really tempted to track down some CD soundtracks for these games someday. I know the Memories of Celceta Limited Edition comes with a 3-CD sountrack with music from the entire series, but I don't know if I could afford the extra $20.

I haven't played any of them yet, but I did just buy Ys I & II Chronicles, The Oath in Felghana and Ys Seven in PSN's 'big in Japan' sale, so looking forward to playing them when I eventually pick up a Vita.

Ooh, they're part of that big sale going on in Europe? Neat. I definitely hope more people become a fan of this series through that sale.

I adore Ys games. Celceta is actually really making me want a Vita, since it's basically the two best Ys games in one (Ys 4 and 7).

I actually managed to get a copy of Ys 4 on the Turbografx and get it in English, outside of the voice acting. Terrific game. And Ys 7 is always one of the first PSP games I'll recommend to anybody. If you're able to play Ys 7, play it as soon as you can. I don't think there's a person out there that dislikes it.

Best thread ever

Oddly enough, that one isn't even the canon one, nor was it sactioned by Falcom as far as I know. Mask of Ys was the canon entry, made by a company that falcom outsourced. That said, apparently it's the inferior game. I've seen videos of both, and Dawn seems a lot better.

The Ys series are awesome, awesome games, I absolutely love the series.

I'd have to say Felghana is my favorite at the moment, which I've played through at least 3 or 4 times, but Ys Seven is a close second. I just recently played through Origins, and eventually i'll get around to the additional 2 characters' playthroughs to see the full story. It's frequently on sale on Steam, so anyone who doesn't have it should pick it up.

The fact that Celceta is actually getting localized on the VIta is another reason that I might have to get a Vita very soon.

She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.

I've seen the first series, it's very cool. Worth checking out (you should be able to find a subbed version on You Tube).

Ys Book I & II is one of the best hidden gem's on the Wii's VC. What a great game - I really need to play more of the series. I was really close years ago to getting a PSP just so I could play Ys VII.

Oh well, ....Cheers to "Eeeeeeece" and it's awesomeness~!!!!

It's not too late! I think...yeah, you can get one on Amazon for under $100. You might want a 8 GB or bigger Memory card, though...
