i think he should be guilty he followed trayvon and the police told him not to,and the guy had freaking skittles what's he gonna do with skittles

I'm not happy with the verdict at all. I have absolutely no doubt that Zimmerman is walking free due to nothing other than the tragic way the prosecution bungled their case. Also, odds of this thread being locked: very high.

Well I know either this thread is going to escalate rapidly into flame wars and name-calling or it will be locked before it gets that chance.

To be fair, it's not breaking any rules that I'm aware of, but it will be locked if it becomes a flame war or if dragon or the other mods decide it to be so.

I'm happy with the verdict. All the evidence shows he's not racist and that Treyon attacked him and very well could have killed him if Zimmerman hadn't taken action. Should he have followed him, no, does that give Treyvon the right to attack? Even more no. Treyvon had Marrona in his system when it happened too. The media did a absolutely shameful and wrong coverage the event by editing the call to the police to make Zimmerman sound racist and showing picture of 10 year old Treyvon and a mugshot of Zimmerman. Zimmerman acted in self defense. Sadly though, a lot of people like to stick to the incorrect sensationalized story that the media initially did of the story.

You realize nothing concrete suggests that he is even racist. You also need to realize that he is hispanic, not white.

I'm not taking sides here, but I want to approach that last part of your argument from a neutral POV (since I'm not white, black, or hispanic): that's quite the harsh generalization you're implying there. Just because someone is not white doesn't mean he cannot be racist. They might be less inclined to it, but that does not exclude them from it. You can't simply say that a person is less racist based on ethnic origins (even though most of us do and probably will keep on doing).

No offense intended, but it's pretty easy to guess people's thoughts about this. Many will say it was a miscarriage of justice, others will say they agree with the verdict, things will get much too heated because this is a rightfully touchy subject, and none of that kind of debate really has much of a place here anyway.

This is indeed a topic worthy of discussion. But this also is not the place for that discussion to happen. And so, as a moderator, I've got to err toward keeping the peace.
