Topic: Your Favorite 10 FPS?

I know this is a divisive genré here at Nintendo Life , but with the staff's recent review of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter , I figured it's about time we discussed our favorites :) For me (only 7, because I haven't played much): 7. The History Channel: Battle For the Pacific ( 360 ) - TBH, the only reason this game is on my list, is because I haven't played any more FPS games. As for positives, the controls work, but other than that, the game is simply bland. Sub-par graphics with samey environments, bland missions, and empty online await. It's cheap, though... 6. Blacklight: Tango Down ( 360 ) - It doesn't have a single player mode, but if your looking for an inexpensive alternative to the COD online experience, this is the game to get. It's not as fleshed out as the next game on my list, but it can still be fun to sit down & play, and the cyber look gives it a unique style. 5. Battlefield 1943 ( 360 ) - While it doesn't have a single player mode, it has fantastic online. Large amount of players, huge islands to battle on, with loads of vehicles to command, such as tanks & planes. This is an insanely fun way to spend an afternoon. 4. Call of Duty: World at War ( Wii ) - I bought this for my Wii after getting it set up for online, and boy am I glad I did. While the online chokes up from time to time, it was still a new experience for me, and I spent hours on it. The single player was fun as well, and the Wii pointer controls are a natural fit for the genré, that gives an unprecedented amount of control to the player. 3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 ( 360 ) - It's controls may not be up to snuff compared to it's Wii brethren, but it's online component is years ahead, and if you turn your brain off, the game is a great showpiece of high octane action. Fighting through a suburban neighborhood, and fast food restaurants are admittedly some cool and unique locals for the genré, as well. 2. Portal ( 360 ) - Okay, this might not count, but I haven't played that many FPS games, so I'm listing it. A truly unique take on the genré, with mind bending puzzles, and some truly disturbing undertones. 1. Goldeneye 007 ( Wii ) - With highly accurate Wii pointer controls, unique additions to the COD playstyle (stealth takedowns & hacking), and classic James Bond soundtrack, FPS' don't get much better than this. The online isn't flawless (it is a Wii game, after all), but I still found it to be a blast, and there is pro controller support for those who want a more traditional experience. I've also played my friend's copy of COD 2 at his house years ago, and own two Turok games on N64 , but I haven't played enough to form solid opinions.

If you haven't played all of these, buy them right now. They aren't just the best FPS' ever, they are also some of the best games ever!

Portal is a puzzle game, not a shooter. A shooter involves combat with shooting guns as a main part of the gameplay. Shooting portals definitely doesn't count as that. The Unfinished absolute is not a FPS either. Mirror's Edge is also not a FPS.

@Pichuka97 Yeah if you have a Saturn Exhumed (known as 'Powerslave' in the US) is a must have FPS with its Metroidvania style massive open levels and mix of swords/guns & arcane magics it was definitely one of a kind back in 1996

To be fair, at least in Mirror's Edge you have a gun that shoots bullets. Sure, it's not the primary means of combat, but it's closer than Portal.

Every thread like this demoralizes into angry nerds fighting over which games belong to which genres. Genres aren't absolute and games can fit in multiple genres, who cares.

Those are the only FPS that I ever played for more than 10 minutes and liked at least a little.
If you count Metroid Prime as an FPS(instead of an FPA or whatever), then that's one, too.

I've played more I sure, but those come to mind first. I have Crysis, but I didn't really care for that game despite the praise it got.

4-minecraft with any gun mod!

Sorry for offending you guys by putting Portal on my list, I really am. I mean clearly you don't shoot anything in portal or The Unfinished Swan, it's not like you are shooting Portals (which can kill things), and paint (which can hurt things). I know that is no where NEAR your definition of a shooter, "you don't shoot things apparently...
