Started playing through Majora's Mask last week, and HOLY COW. This game is so good. I don't know why I've put off playing it for so long. It's an absolute masterpiece. The dungeons are great, the story is dark, intriguing, and extremely emotional at times, the time loop mechanic is pulled off excellently, and the music is masterful.

I haven't finished it yet, I'm at Goron City right now so I'm only halfway done, but unless this game REALLY falls off in the last half, this might just be my favorite N64 game of all time. I strongly recommend that everyone tries it, and now that it's on the Expansion Pack, it's more accessible to play. If you get stuck, there's no shame in using a guide, and I'm using a guide myself pretty frequently.

I'll be putting a full review of the game in the "Games you recently beat" forum once I finish this one. It's looking good so far, though. What a game.

Currently playing Assassins Creed: Odyssey on Series S - First AC game I've played since the Ezio Trilogy on PS3 and I'm loving it. I'd say it's more of an Greek-themed open world game than a typical AC game from what I remember of the previous ones I've played, but I feel like it's going to be a looooong game. Currently about 15 hours in and still only on Chapter 2

It's a great game, @dmcc0 .... Early on, you'll probably want to sneak around & be careful but later, if you feel that way inclined, you can just rush into anywhere & slaughter everyone fairly easily! Did you get the season pass, too?

@StarPoint Majora's Mask is terrific. Very much a top three Zelda game for me. I've never really played anything else quite like it.

Looking forward to your review.

@Ralizah It is an extremely unique game on its own, but especially when looking at the other Zelda titles. It feels much less of a "Hero's journey" like so many of the other games are. Not to downplay the other titles, but it's just a unique experience for sure. I really like the video that Alex, Zion, and Kate did because it brings out a lot of stuff that I also enjoy about the game regarding the story and theme.

@BruceCM no, I didn't get the season pass. I might look into it later, but I feel like there's enough in the game already without it. I'm going full on stealth at the moment - it's so satisfying wiping out a whole camp with out being spotted!

BruceCM

There is plenty in the game, @dmcc0 ... But the season pass & dlc don't go on such good sales, whereas you can often get the ultimate version for a hefty discount! It can also be fun charging into a fort or wherever & wiping them all out openly, as well, though

@BruceCM yeah, those ultimate versions do go on pretty deep discount regularly, so I'm not sure why I only picked up the regular version - probably used MS reward points to pay for it or something.

Triangle Strategy.

I started Horizon Forbidden West, started Elden Ring and played the Kirby demo... but as soon as Triangle Strategy released I lost all interest in everything else. This game here... man. It's something special.

In a few years time when we talk about our top 5 Switch games of all time, I have a feeling this game will be in that list.

Just started playing Monster Hunter Stories 2 recently and I'm loving the game so far.
The game looks gorgeous whether on Switch or PC, and there are a ton of quality of life changes added, some just nice to have while others feel needed.
So far from what I played the sequel is a huge improvement from the original.

I also played a bit of Astral Chain, which while fun I skipped for now cause I'm still in a Monster Hunter mood from just beating the first stories game.

This year is looking to be amazing for me and in general too.
I have Stories 2 and Astral Chain to play for the next few months and Sunbreak will release in the Summer so it'll give me more reasons to come back to Rise. And lastly Xenoblade 3 which I'll 100% get releases in September along with the possibility of the DQ3 remakes.

I'm loving this year so far!

Now play Dragon Quest

Currently I am enjoying Assassin's Creed Origins. Just left Siwa (the starting zone) after spending so much time doing the side quests and exploring. It is awesome!

It is way better than the starting areas in Valhalla and it is on par with Kephallonia from Odyssey.

I have the feeling that it will get better and better as I continue.

@BruceCM
So I'm not the only one!

I saw reviews were at 83% which, for the genre is really good, but it doesn't scream "timeless masterpiece" like a Zelda BotW or Metroid Prime.

But as I'm playing this game, all I keep thinking is, "am I the only one who thinks this is one of the best games I've played in years? Everyone else seems to like it but doesn't think it's a masterpiece... is my taste just that particular?"

But then I saw that SwitchUp Review which absolutely showered it in praise with a glowing 95% recommendation, one of if not the highest score they've ever awarded, and thought ok, so there are others out there who see the same thing I'm seeing.

I'm kind of surprised to hear you like it that much- top 10 of all time is impressive... Though I don't question it, because I'm feeling the exact same way!

My goodness this game is incredible!

Just reached the Chapter 7 battle and I feel so vested. I will not stand idly by and watch my best friend die! The vote came down to the wire. I must have missed a piece of info because one of the choices was still locked. Barely scraped by with a 4-3 vote. I was on the edge of my seat! I genuinely worried we were going to hand Roland over to the Aesfrosti army.

And I've heard this is like, the hardest chapter in the game. The stakes sure make it feel like it should be. Outnumbered and making a desperate last stand, with one secret trick up our sleeve if I can strategize pulling it off.

This game is EPIC! Freaking epic. I could go on and on and on about how amazing this game is. It's got me wrapped around its finger. And I already know I'm gonna sound like a mad man. Everyone's ignoring it like the Boy Who Cried Wolf, because the last two Team Asano games weren't as good as ppl had hoped, and even the demo for this game starts a bit slow, and ppl don't realize the action starts IMMEDIATELY AFTER the point where the demo ends. And it's like no, really! This game is a masterpiece! Keep playing! You'll see what I see, just keep playing!

Well, I'm a big fan of TRPGs like this & there aren't many around, really, @JaxonH .... & The story is so good That battle is certainly a difficult 1, I can well believe it's the most difficult in the game
I'd seen it was doing better over in Japan but it's not doing badly here. There'll doubtless be figures appearing soon enough

There really isn't. Especially when you narrow it down to games of this stripe that are actually really freaking good.

I keep saying it, but this game reminds me of Fire Emblem Awakening. I love Three Houses, but it did have a different flavor than Awakening did. Both with respect to art style and story. But I think Triangle Strategy's story is better than either of them. Much better. Though the cinematic cutscenes in Awakening and gorgeous conversation sprites did go a long ways to connecting the player with the characters (I loved Chrom and Frederick and Lissa and Sumia and Vaike, and that dude who was always hitting on the short haired female knight lol... what a great cast that was).

Guess I never realized how much I love games like this myself. I always thought it was just Fire Emblem specifically I liked. But no. I like SRPGs with turn based, grid based combat, set with medieval Knights and mages and archers and the like, with political sabotage and betrayal and war and sacrifice and honor. I eat it up.

I do like your praise for Triangle Strategy! I admit I'm on the fence after the (admittedly rough) first demo, though I have yet to try the prologue demo. I just tried Octopath Traveler's demo over the weekend actually; I didn't dislike it - there were aspects of it I enjoyed - but not quite enough to devote 80+ hours to the full package. Too, I'm hesitating due to 1. current backlog, which includes another SRPG (FE3H) and 2. I'm trying to round up any 3DS and Wii U stragglers I want before the eShops close for good and am trying to budget accordingly.

Any thoughts on Bravely Default II? I really enjoyed both 3DS entries and do hope to grab that before long++.

I like Bravely Default 2. I know a lot of ppl were trashing it but I liked it.

That said, it's not a masterpiece level game. So set expectations accordingly. It's a good game. Not an exceptionally great game.

Triangle Strategy is an exceptionally great game.
