I remembered being snowed in during a big snow storm, I ended up playing Doom 3 on PC (the original release, not the BFG edition) from start to finish. It was a good game, but weirdly it wouldn't be my first choice to play a game all day.

I guess being snowed in is enough to make me want to play something from start to finish.

What Remains of Edith Finch was a masterpiece I couldn't put down. It was also only about 3 hours long so I guess that helps lol

Just wanted to point out that there are games you play all day without the games being 'good' necessarily. I am thinking of plenty of MMOs in my childhood; sometimes I just spent the morning to night playing but in retrospect I wouldn't call those games good, just addictive

Yeah, I think there are two different categories here. There's the kind of game that you'll spin up in the morning on a lazy weekend or something and then look at the clock only to realise it's now 1AM. Civ being the classic example of that for me. Not necessarily bad just more a case of it being the kind of game that's both addictive and time consuming

But then there's the other kind of game, which is what @Pastellioli is getting at. Where the end result is maybe the same but the reason for doing it is different. The energy is more of like a kid on Christmas morning. Trying to think the last time I really felt like that about a game to that degree. TotK and BotW I think were fairly close. Thinking about it.... I'd say Skyward Sword when it first came out was probably the last time I think I really felt like that about a game to that degree

@Zuljaras OMG how could I forget SotN and Dawn of Sorrow, especially since Dawn of Sorrow was the reason I got my DS!!! After playing Aria I had to play the sequel so one day on my lunch break I ran into a Gamestop next door to where I worked and picked up a DS and Dawn of Sorrow.

Shout to HoMM 3 that another one too I played alot when I was younger. As I said before too many years of gaming to remember every game lol.

@Tasuki I too had such fond memories of those titles. And because I played on emulator back then in 2005 now, I have 3 copies of Dawn of Sorrow. Just for good measures

@Zuljaras I just can't think of how the touch screen parts of Dawn of Sorrow would work on an emulator. I am going to have to find a cheap DS at some point to play those games again. I never finished Portrait of Ruin nor played the last one.

@Tasuki With the mouse also there is a romhack that automatically completes the Seals after the bosses. However DoS is for nostalgia while Order of Ecclesia (the 3rd one) is absolute masterpiece!

@skywake That Christmas thing you mentioned is a pretty accurate description. That is what it felt like when I was finishing up the game late at night to the early morning in October. I did play it because I was interested in it for a while but also wanted to as escapism since it looked fun, and it did make me happy and improved my mood significantly.

The game I played specifically was Conker's Bad Fur Day. Though I wouldn't say it is an addictive game, I still have great memories finishing up the game last year, and I think the long time I spent finishing it from 11 pm to 8 am on the Xbox played a factor in why it is one of my favorite games of all time since it just created such a good moment for me that I wish would happen again. I think playing games for a long amount of time can create good memories because you have all the free time to just play uninterrupted.

I can remember getting onto the final two levels but taking so much time to complete them from how difficult they got (paired with the outdated controls) then fast forward to maybe 4 or 5 am and I kept dying to the final boss, took an hour-long nap, and finally finished the boss and game and got onto its final cutscene and just staring at the screen, sitting in silence as the credits rolled as the game I had fun with for the past two weeks was finally finished. Then I spent the remaining two hours playing the multiplayer for the first time and getting all the extra achievements and I didn't even feel tired by the end of it. I wish I could do that again with another game. It's a memory I remember so vividly.

@Zuljaras I always heard mixed things about Order, that and I just never got around to buying it. Portrait of Ruin is my favorite still, I thought it was really neat how they made that a sequel to Bloodlines.

@Tasuki I do not know about mixed but they made an awesome female protagonist, combined both metridvania and level based gameplay. So much to explore and side quests to do!

Also it is the ONLY Castlevania(canon) game where you can see Dracula actually WALK!

I think the longest time I've spent in one day playing one single game was when I refused to stop playing the Miles Edgeworth game until I had finished the 2nd half of the final case, which took longer than I expected. So 5+ hours there. Which is funny since that's a bottom tier Ace Attorney game.

...is what I was gonna say but I completely forgot that I replayed I think all of Mario and Luigi Partners in Time in one day. It was a weird day where I was half helping my parents at their job all day, and I needed some entertainment for the day between work so I randomly chose this game. I'm undecided if I had played some of it again before that or if my job was simple and light enough that I could've beaten the whole thing beginning to end in one day. Also funny because its probably the worst of the pre-Sticker Star Mario RPGs (though I simultaneously think its kinda underrated).

I usually only play a game for a 1 to 2 hour stretch at most, but I can remember a couple times where I went above and beyond and marathonned for about 3 to 4 hours.

One such case was the entire game of 198X, the somber indie short story about a latchkey preteen in the 80s and their reflections on using video games to evade loneliness and depression. The gameplay was decent and the story was gloomy but compelling - it was like the video game equivalent of Pink Floyd's The Wall, and I played it start to finish one afternoon off work.

My more recent power session was the final missions of Unicorn Overlord, last may. I went from the gates of the capital, to inside the capital, to the climactic showdown over the course of three powerful hours, and deeply enjoyed the lengthy credits and ending sequence I'd been striving to attain for 130 hours over the past 3 months, brain cells dripping with dopamine by the final screen.

It's a rare thing for me, so it's particularly memorable, and typically reserved for games I've latched onto as personal all-time greats.

Capitalism Plus. I don't know about the whole day, but there were definitely some evenings where I'd start playing, only to see the dawn on the horizon and suddenly realise the time.

Oh man being 40 years old now I could go list tons of games (mostly from the youth) that I spent all day on. So to make it easy and in no particular order I'll mention two games that come to mind. One from the past and one most recent.

Past: Aliens vs Predator 2 (PC, 2001). I PLAYED the multiplayer for HOURS and HOURS. There was a time that game was my life. I cannot express enough how that game was top tier 'Golden Era' of gaming. All day to the wee hours of the night sessions.

Most recent: Sifu (Switch). No way in hell do I have the time to dedicate that many hours to gaming like in the youthful days However, this game put its hooks into me pretty quick and I just couldn't get enough of going all kung fu. Made me feel like a bad@ss. My last days off once I finally wrapped up adult crap (and that classic "Honey-Do List") I parked my rear on the couch I played till I passed out.
