I'm getting bored again, so I wanna make another topic now! It is straightforward; what game did you like so much that you played it for the entire day until late at night? Like with my other forums, you are free to mention non-Nintendo games and can list more than one game if you want.
For me, it was Banjo-Kazooie. I do seem to be a longtime fan of Rare, but I only started to play their games three years ago, so I am pretty much new to their games. Back then, I did not have an Xbox and only had a Switch, but I wanted to play more of their games badly, especially after playing the SNES Donkey Kong Country games back in the summer of 2021. When Nintendo announced the N64 Expansion Pack a few months later and showed Banjo-Kazooie on there, my interest shot up, and the game was my only reason for wanting to upgrade. When I got the Expansion Pack back in March 2022 during the nighttime, I immediately hopped onto Banjo and got lost in its worlds and characters, and I believe I stayed up until either 12 or 2 in the morning! It was the only game I played on the Switch for about a week or so, and when I was onto the last few worlds in the game, I spent the entire day on the game in the morning and then finished it at 9 PM, though I got really sad when I finished it lol. It is such a good memory I have, and the game is really what turned me into a Rare fan.
Tears of the kingdom on the day it came out. That's kind of it. I have sensitive eyes, so long sessions can be somewhat unhealthy for me, but c'mon, I had to make an exception! Also. I also think I played like 6+ hours of Batman Arkham City once, but I might be remembering wrong.
Well since I have been gaming now for 35+ years there have been alot. I remember playing Super Mario Bros 2 all day every day one summer when I was kid. Then there was Final Fantasy III (6) on SNES when I was in high school and then of course there was Ocarina of Time when I first got that on my N64. Those are what comes to mind, but I know there are alot more.
Nowadays it's World of Warcraft, easily. There is just so much to do in that game I can play it for hours if given the opportunity.

Back in the day Okami and Metroid Prime 3 on Wii. Most recently probably Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Tears of the Kingdom. My horrible attention span is only beat by highly addictive games nowadays
There have been games that I could not stop playing but that was in my youth Some are in my later years but still here are the games on the top of my head
1. Castlevania Symphony of the Night - this could never be forgotten!
2. WarCraft III The Frozen Throne - masterpiece!
3. Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow - first when it was released I was hooked, but then again Castlevania(metroidvania) is the best thing for me I remember that I played it on an emulator and DS emulation was in its VERY early stages, so I played it in 30-40% if its original speed! The dedication back then!!!
4. Darksiders 1 - I remember fondly that I could not stop playing it until it was done. I did not sleep that night just to get to the end! Still LOVE that game!
5. Heroes of Might and Magic 3!!!
And of course, honorable mention to World of Warcraft for trying to destroy my life in a good way

@Zuljaras castlevania and darksiders, great picks 👌
I’m an NES and SNES/Genesis castlevania kinda person, but SOTN is a classic. Still have it on my Xbox.

@Yousef- Ahhh the NES, my first encounter with gaming!!!
TMNT1, Castlevania II, Faxanadu and Ninja Gaiden 3 were my jams back then! I think I lost sleep because of TMNT1
I am also upgrading my list with Heroes of Might and Magic 3 ... just one more turn

@Zuljaras heck yeah, mine too!! Wild Gunman and Duck Hunt were my first video games!! As a kid, it blew my mind that you could “shoot” things on the tv. We didn’t have that many NES games sadly, but we thankfully had Super Mario, the obvious pick. After that, we moved onto the mega drive with Sonic 1 and Golden Axe 2, the latter I was REALLY addicted to. But once again not many video games (what’s worse, a Mickey Mouse game we had wasn’t working) but it was all good!
Ps1 we finally had a lot of games because they were easier to get in kuwait, then ps2 and etc.
Hmmmm as for my own list, I should definitely add Ninja Gaiden on the NES. that game still blows my mind! “Cinamatic cutscenes” and “mature storytelling” on the NES… you were literally playing a movie!! Easily my top 3 NES games and definitely sunk so many days into it, not even finishing it. Sometimes I’d replay it just for the sheer heck of it. Mesmerizing game with an incredible story and great action.

Are we're talking about a marathon session; playing through the night without sleep?
Hadn't done that in quite some time. Probably Phantasy Star Universe was the most recent, although that was almost twenty years ago now. I was off work the following day, so I put in a thirty-six hour session. With breaks only for life necessities.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,555 games (as of March 31st, 2026)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
Recently, Mario Wonder had me so obsessed I 100%-ed the first weekend. Peach: Showtime I similarly played for 10 hours straight when I got it and 100%-ed a few days later.... and that was with me consciously trying to pace myself.
Oh boy, I wish I could remember my boyhood days a little more clearly to better answer this question. I can't reliably name any game from back in the day that I played all day, when I actually had the time to. There would have been some contenders though, surely. Maybe Monkey Island 2. Maybe a Championship/Football Manager. Maybe Syndicate. Too many games, too many years ago.
More recently, with kids around, the opportunity for an all day session is exceedingly rare. The closest I suspect I've probably got was when I've been unwell. I've taken very little time off work for sickness over the years, but one time I was recovering from flu and had probably the longest gaming session of my adult life, playing Ocarina of Time 3D.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Maybe Animal Crossing New Leaf? Played everything before that and loved it, but I don't think I had any of them near the release date? Just randomly got them at some point.
New Leaf though! I remember buying a magazine for it and looking at the renders, there was a trailer that was its own 3DS app for some reason?
It was all very exciting. Far easier to be hyped as a kid with no internet.
Stayed up until 4am or something ridiculous when it came out, just fishing and running around. I'm sure I would have done it with other games at the time, but being on a handheld makes it easier to get away with
Different time, different stage of life. Probably won't do it again but I don't regret it.
The best one I remember is my brother and I playing Mario 3 all day. I don't remember if we didn't know about the warp whistles or had already beaten it that way and wanted to play every level, but we made it partway through World 8 before our parents forced us to go to bed. Being unable to save, we just left the NES on all night. It practically burnt our hands when we touched it in the morning, but it only took us about 30 minutes to beat it, cheer and high five each other, and finally give the system a rest and turn it off. Fun times.
I remember on one new year's day when i was 8 I got Animal crossing new leaf and played all day every day for weeks. That is where i started my love for animal crossing games.

Just wanted to point out that there are games you play all day without the games being 'good' necessarily. I am thinking of plenty of MMOs in my childhood; sometimes I just spent the morning to night playing but in retrospect I wouldn't call those games good, just addictive.
There was also a 2 week period in Spring 2020 where I played ACNH for at least 12 hours a day every day... Although it's a good game that isn't what led me to play that much. Come to think about it, there have been a fair amount of times in my life where I played a game all day because of mental trauma or extreme laziness rather than even being addicted. I think Mario Wonder is a rare exception where I just loved it so much I basically couldn't stop playing all weekend even though I had other things I should have been doing.
@FishyS I am thinking about that more now that you bring that up. There have been times when I do play a game all day or focus on playing a specific game for a few days or weeks because of how I feel. Our moods and the stuff going on in our lives I believe make us want to play a game for an entire day, sometimes not because it is good or addictive, but because it makes us forget about issues going on in our lives, and it is why I think video games are a good way of escapism.
I think for the remaining two weeks of September to early October last year, I played a different game on my Xbox almost always late at night, If I recall, it was from 8 pm to maybe 12 or 1 am, as at that time, I would have to help out for a majority of the day, which resulted in me playing games significantly less. There weren't any awful or significant events that happened to me that made me feel terrible and made me spend so much time on that game, but it was that I always had to work and stay busy, so I always tried to get a ton of time into it before the next day, as the world and characters the game boasted cheered me up and sort of gave me a way to escape from my busy schedule at the time, and to add, the entire game is supposed to be lighthearted and ridiculous. I remember playing and finishing the game in October, which was from 9 pm to 6 am and then I played more of it until 8 am. It is such a good memory I have, and it makes me wish I could have a similar moment like that again because the game is just so special to me. Sometimes, I do wish I could be in the game worlds some of the video games I play have.
