I swear we had one of those like, last year, but I've searched hard and couldn't find anything besides a locked thread that was diverted to another thread where people just gawked at it...
Anyways...Vocaloid is a singing voice synthesizer. Look it up if you want something more in-depth on how it works. More importantly, I wanted to focus this thread on the various mascot characters created for the program, whose voices are used for the various songs people have put out there using this program, as well as the discussion and sharing of said music.
Personally, I'm not the biggest Vocaloid fan, but I do like some songs I've come across, and the recent release of the PS3 game, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F, as well as its demo sparked some recent interest in it for me.
BTW, please don't embed. It'll just make the page load slower. Also don't post straight link either. Use url tags and copy the titles, like I have. If you're not sure how to do that, quote this post and you'll see what I mean.
I never understood the purpose of vocaloids, but I suppose there is a crowd that likes them.
It's for people who have talent as composers and songwriters, but don't have any vocalists for their songs. Personally, I think we need more stuff like this. You have no idea how of ten I encounter a song with good music and good lyrics but crappy vocals (like THIS....). Drives me nuts sometimes...
Man my girlfriend is obssesed with Vocaloid. Specifically Miku, she's her idol, apparently. Listens to the songs, has a miku plushie, figure, shirt, i think earings, and I'm going to make her a bead sprite of Miku.
I personally only care for Miku. I love World is Mine and Love is War. I used to be way more into Vocaloid before.
I am literally listening to Vocaloid songs right now. I would have to say my favorite is Gumi but VY1V3 and IA are also very good. One of my favorite songs is a cover of "My Soul Your Beats" by IA, it sounds fantastic. Link for anyone curious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuymRI0doaw
"Love your ego, you won't feel a thing, always number one, the pen with a bent wrist crooked king, sign away our peace, for your war, one word and it's over." ~ Deadmau5
I used to be obsessed with Vocaloid. I'd say my favourites are the twins Len and Rin, with Gumi very close behind.
I got my other family members into it, too... One of my sisters loves SeeU and the other is obsessed with Miku. My brother likes Len.
Personally... I am hoping Project Diva F does well over here so they can port other games... Like the Vocaloid game for the Vita.
Say what now?

I'm not really active here anymore. So it goes.
I'm not the biggest fan either, but I can appreciate the work that goes into making vocaloid songs. I do compose as a hobby now and then and it's frustrating when you can't sing and want to put in a vocal line anyway. Some of the stuff online is wonderfully layered and mixed, and I think it's great that there's a following for Vocaloid because people with the talent for professional-level production can finally get recognised.
My favourite (out of the 3-4 I've actually listened to :/) would have to be Luka, and favourite song would be Discommunication
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
I saw that Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F game on the psn network so its a rhythm game? Thats awesome. I saw someone on twitch play 1 of the earlier titles i think. Every1 in the chat were like super hardcore fans.

well not everybody can be as good singing as David Coverdale, Jon Anderson or Fred Mercury. vocaloid might be an alternative....

Do ya think that the Vocaloid program could be used for games? I don't mean put Gumi and the others (ya, I just said GUMI and the others) I mean use digital voices.
Like say in a RPG game if your interacting with another human and you type something in, your chareter's actually speak what you typed, this could be used in other ways. Like say if there is a lot of talking in the game you don't have to use one persons voice for six game charterers.
I don't know much about the program but I think it's an idea.

Marisa- It's so hot, I'm gonna die here.

Remilia- My, it'd be fine if you'd let me take care of tha...
