I don't mind cinematics in video games that much, just as long as they don't over do it. I mean, I heard that MGS4 had a scene that was like, what, 2 hours? wtf? xD EDIT: Maybe it was a half-hour, can't remember, lol
I don't think there is one right way to make games. Some games are story heavy (The Professor Layton series is a GREAT example) and it drives you to play more. What will happen next? I'm excited to find out. Some games have much less story, like Kirby and Mario platformers. It works for them. Unless the graphics are just awful, today, most people (especially Nintendo fans who also enjoy playing other consoles) the graphics don't make them game, they just enhance them. Some people love realism, some love escapism. Its purely preference and that's why this "debate" will never be settled.
The whole Nintendo fanboy hates cinematics in video games confuses me.
no we dont how do you explain Prof. Layton Games?

Yeah it was the credits I believe. An hour and a half film. D:
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

All depends on the game itself for me really, games like Metroid or Pikmin (its environments mainly) I'd want to be realistic. While other games like Mario and the "Toon" Zelda games I wouldn't really care for realistic visuals. Edit: @Avi: Really, thought it was towards the beginning...ah well, whatever.
I'm just using the "PSP vs DS" example to state my point that graphics are not the most important thing in gaming.
Yeah, we already know games can be fun without cutting-edge graphics. Now prove that cutting-edge graphics make games less fun, and then you'll have a point.
Personally i hate the majority of western developers, i basically stick to Japanese based titles and that's that.

Exactly! It also depends on the gamer!
Its like movies. Some concepts would work better for comedy than drama.

My point exactly.
oh sorry I thought you were saying Nintendo fans hate cinematics....

I don't even understand how some people see graphics. I mean, i have a 26 inch HD television. It's not very big, which is possibly why i can't even see the difference between my Wii games and my Ps3 games. Actually, some of my Ps3 games seem to have more "jaggies" than other Wii games, and also framerate in Ps3 games like GTA IV and Skyrim is surprisingly low. I'm used to smoothness when playing games like SMG or Zelda. Skyward Sword is easily the best looking game i've played in this generation. My Wii is connected with component cable and Ps3 with HD cable.

Nope.
you have too be.
Skyward Sword looks great but when I compare it to Uncharted or Gears 3 pluged into a 60 inch HDTV by HDMI it looks someone took a crap.

Ps3 games usually look better in still images, but when you actually play them, you'll see the truth. I have been a little bit disappointed in my Ps3 compared to what i expected it to be.
