Ooo, I think I have a good realistic guess. It's a brine lake yes? And when there's a brine lake, there is usually tiny shrimp and other organisms that live in the water that produce a red pigment (and when Flamingos eat them, the pigment is transferred to their feathers, giving them the characteristic pink color). So it's possible that the pink lake is being caused by the combined bodies of millions of brine shrimp.
