Topic: The Game Awards 2023

Metroid prime 4? Huh? I want that as much as the next person, but the chances of this happening are brutally slim. Nintendo doesn’t really do new game announcements at the game awards (this doesn’t include dlc and existing promo for already announced games.) If prime 4 is even happening remotely soon, it will definitely be a last announcement for a Nintendo direct, not the game awards. Maybe full game reveals have happened at tga from Nintendo previously, I dunno. But they are probably saving something as anticipated and big as Metroid prime for a direct.

Random Nintendo ad is most likely.

Only placed 5 votes, based on what I've played and what I felt was deserving.
My personal order of preference for the 5 voted:
1. Baldurs Gate
2. Lies of P
3. TOTK
4. Hi-Fi Rush
5. Armored Core VI

The biggest surprise for me this year was probably Lies of P... was set to be my personal GOTY, but I am now a week into BG3, which is honestly as great as everyone says it is.

I still loved TOTK and ACVI, but neither quite landed with me as well as I thought they might.

I only voted for Mario Wonder for Player's choice mainly because it's the only one I've played completely.

tbh, I really wanted to vote for the watermelon/suika game but it's not in the list.

...I'm gonna be real here, the only proper game I've played from this year has been Ghost Trick HD and since that's not on there, I went with Octopath 2 XD

Really hope Genshin doesn't take it again this year (nothing against the game, I just think it'd be exceptionally boring), though with the war they waged against Sonic Frontiers last year? Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it managed to do it to be honest.

Genshin Impact is on the list? I fully expect it to win. Again.

I did my voting. I played 5 of the games this year on that list.

• starfield( which I thought was better than some let on). Don't yell at me 😬
• alan wake 2, very good, even great. But not in my top 5 for the year if I'm being honest
• hi fi rush, absolutely amazing game with no filler or downtime. One of the best experiences I've had in gaming in this year.
• mario wonder, best 2d mario since smb3 imo
• totk, quite possibly my favorite game of all time

Or Honkai which is also on the list and is of course the same company. A couple weeks ago Honkai got nominated for Google Play player's choice and Honkai said they would give everyone who voted a prize if they win.

I'd want either Octopath 2 or FFXVI to win Players' Voice. Haven't played either yet (Octopath 2 got sent to the backlog because that time of the year was insanely packed and regarding FFXVI I don't own a PS5) but I feel those 2 games got snubbed the most.

@Grumblevolcano I agree about the snubbing... although I suppose it was a packed year. I'm hoping FFXVI wins music; it has some amazing songs, as usual for FF games.

With three GotY nominees up for the music category, I'd be very surprised if one of them doesn't take it.

The jury aren't exactly known for spreading the love around.

Love everything about it, and the surprise shadow-drop to GamePass was great...

I wonder if HFR has been an unfortunate casualty of reverse 'recency bias'? And if the early 2023 release has paved the way for it to be forgotten somewhat as bigger/better titles were released?

It of course can't weight in against the likes of Baldurs / TOTK etc... but would be great to see more people talking about it. I suppose also though the fact is it not multi-plat is probably hurting it somewhat.

Switch could/should be able to run it? I played on the Deck, and performance was great

@CJD87 I often wonder the same. I feel like if it dropped in August or later, more buzz would've surrounded it during the voting.

Nonetheless, it's such a fun time and I know if it was on switch, it would sell like hotcakes. I've said since day 1 it feels like a side project nintendo would've done. It actually feels like a nintendo game to me.

I am glad it got some sort of recognition though. It deserves all the love.

@NintendoByNature Fully agree. Deck runs this at 60FPS, on medium-high settings....

Surely a Switch port could be do-able, either 30fps with high settings or maintain 60fps but low settings?

Found a link that supposedly tracks the Players Voice votes in real time. Baldur's Gate 3 is leading, followed by Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, & TotK. FFXVI is just hanging on in 10th place, with Hogwarts Legacy behind in 11th (looking like it may miss the cutoff point depending on how voting goes). Mario Wonder is 12th.

Only voted 3, based on what I've played... Lies of P, BG3 and TOTK - coincidentally my actual top 3 GOTYs (#1 Baldurs, #2 Lies #3 TOTK)

We all know that this award goes to the fandom that shouts the loudest and that's probably between Genshin and Harry Potter.

I'll do my best to keep BG3, TotK, Resi 4 and AW2 in the hunt though.

My favorites already got rejected. I guess I'll vote for TotK and BG3 because I don't think I'd like any of the other games.
