Sorta off topic: for the record (as it seems to be a commonly misunderstood situation), Family Guy's return to Fox had less to do with "fan outrage" than it had to do with the show posting big ratings when the original run was picked up by Adult Swim, and DVDs of the show sold insanely well. Fox saw how much money could be made from the series if they got behind it (something they never did in the original run, bouncing it around the schedule and barely promoting it), so they made the deal with Seth to bring it back, which was an extremely profitable decision for all involved.
On topic: reportedly, Fox wants to cut the voice actors' salaries by perhaps as much as 45%. Imagine if your job (which has made millions upon millions upon millions for your bosses, not to mention virtually subsidizing the entire network for many years as it was getting off the ground in the early 90s) wanted to cut your pay in half.
The only interaction I've had with Homer and his dysfunctional family is while on a trip to Mexico. Everything was in Spanish, but it was a heck of a lot better than the other things they had on (Mexican television is really, really messed up IMO. You can watch anything you want as long as it's soccer, dubbed cartoons and Nickelodeon sitcoms, or those abysmal soap operas). So now that I'm back in the States, I have other things to watch. Therefore, this doesn't really affect me.

According to something I heard on NPR yesterday, Fox stands to make more of a profit by canceling The Simpsons and sending the show into syndication. I think it was something like $1.5 million an episode if memory serves. Almost a billion dollars when you figure how many episodes are available.
Well they do have a huge backlog of episodes built up by this point. I guess if it were cancelled it wouldn't be the end of the world. There's plenty of old shows to watch. Not to mention the voice actors are getting pretty old. The lady who does the voice for Mrs. Krabappel is damn near 70 now! It'll be sad to see it go whenever that happens. It Probably won't even have a real finale episode. They'll just haul off and dump it.

Nahh seth green is going to great on the flintstones. Not sure why you would think that it would run the same type of show a family guy when his other two shows are very much different. Family guy only startefod to suck when the story got thrown out the window for random sketches and it started to appeal to the lowest domainater of intelligence. Most people. Who find family guy funny dont even get half the jokes. (With the expection of the obvious stuff most are real obscure 80s and nerd stuff)
Also its not like The Flintstones were always a kids show. When it first launched it aired in prime time as a serious comdey in the vain of I Love Lucy about the modern family just in an animated settting. The writing was smart and witty that cattered too an adult audience. Hell the first real flintstones marketing was using barney and fred to sell cigarettes.
WAT!

Well EXCUUUUUUUSEEEEE US Princ- whait he's right That's why most Mexican families pay for satellite TV as soon as they can.
I'm a Simpsons fans and even I think the show should have been cancelled 12 years ago. Cancel it in syndication but still do one Treehouse of Horror episode per year as a Halloween special. That should make everyone happy.
@Link79: Yes Futurama was cancelled on Fox but much like Family Guy Futurama was getting such high ratings on Adult Swim and through DVD sales that Comedy Central went to Matt Groening and worked out a deal with him for the four movies. Those also sold really well so Comedy Central went back to Matt and made another contract this time for a few seasons. Starting with the 5th season its been on Comedy Central.
My biggest thing with the SImpsons is that after 20+ years no one has aged and the kids are still in the same grade that they have been in even though they had several episodes where they clear completed the grade they were in. Like the Kamp Krusty episode.

Now we're one step closer to the Seth McFarlane Network! (If the latest episodes of Family Guy and American Dad are any indication, that wold be bad.) I could see Fox cancelling the Simpsons, it has to come to an end eventually. Like @Magi said, I read yesterday Fox could make up to 750 million a year in syndication if they cancelled the simpsons.
Now we're one step closer to the Seth McFarlane Network!
Isnt that what Adult Swim has become???
no, it's become Fox followed by late night hippie ironic self-aware drug use no one cares shows. And sometimes the Boondocks or anime or something else of value.

The thing about that is that since the show's humor was a lot less raunchy than today's animated sitcoms', parents could let their kids watch The Flinstones without having to worry about dirty humor. The adult humor in the Flinstones came from dealing with marriage and neighbors along with occasional pop culture references, something that kids could at least watch and enjoy when Fred gets mad and does something childish. The adult humor in Seth MacFarlane's cartoons is much more adult oriented, and more pop culture related.
T.V. has changed a lot in fifty years. When the Flinstones first came on the air, Fred and Wilma slept in separate beds. This is definitely not the case with recent T.V. shows. I'm not saying I hate raunchy humor with a fiery passion, I just don't want to see a classical show that brought animation to prime time be reduced to such a level just because some guy thinks that making three animated shows about modern suburbia just isn't enough.
Finally, my bitter and petty wish of many years has come true: Simpsons cancelled, and Futurama on the air again. At last, the wrong has been righted. ; )
